Role Overview

A hospital sitter provides continuous bedside supervision to patients identified as at-risk, including those prone to falling, wandering, or self-injury. This position demands constant vigilance and responsiveness to patient needs while maintaining clear communication with nursing personnel. The sitter must report any notable changes in the patient's condition or behavior and accurately document these observations within the medical record system. Adhering to confidentiality protocols and safety standards is essential, alongside effective interactions with patients, their relatives, and healthcare team members.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain uninterrupted observation of assigned patients to prevent accidents or adverse events.
  • Notify nursing staff promptly regarding any changes in patient status or behavior.
  • Document all relevant observations and interactions comprehensively in patient records.
  • Adhere strictly to patient confidentiality guidelines and hospital safety procedures.
  • Facilitate communication between patients, family members, and medical staff to support patient care.

Essential Requirements

  • Possession of certification as a home health aide or nursing assistant.
  • Completion of high school education or equivalent qualification.
  • Minimum of one to two years of experience working within a healthcare environment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills for effective team collaboration and patient interaction.
  • Capability to work both independently and collaboratively as necessary.
  • Demonstration of a compassionate and empathetic approach toward patients.
  • Holders of a valid driver's license with dependable transportation for travel to work assignments.
  • Physical ability to assist with patient movement when required.
  • Flexibility to accommodate various shift times including evenings and weekends.
  • Basic proficiency with computers, particularly electronic health records (EHR) systems.
  • Compliance with applicable privacy laws, such as HIPAA, safeguarding patient information confidentiality.
