Historical Interpreter I - Magnolia Grange

Overview

This part-time role involves managing the day-to-day functions at Magnolia Grange Museum House under the guidance of the Historical Sites Supervisor. The position requires overseeing property inspections, conducting house tours, facilitating programs and special events, and performing curatorial care of artifacts.

Responsibilities

• Supervise daily operations of the museum house including property inspections.
• Conduct regular house tours and assist with program and event planning.
• Maintain and care for the museum’s artifact collection through daily inspections.
• Collaborate closely with volunteers, ensuring excellent customer service and managing group tours.
• Track visitation statistics and volunteer hours accurately.
• Work some weekends and occasional evenings as needed for events and programs.
• Perform other assigned duties to support museum operations.

Qualifications and Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in history, museum studies, or a related discipline, or an equivalent mix of education and experience.
• Preferred prior experience at a house museum or historic site.
• Strong preference for candidates with curatorial and customer service experience.
• Proficient in MS Office software.
• Must pass pre-employment drug screening, FBI criminal background check, and degree verification.

Work Schedule and Location

• Workdays are Tuesday through Saturday, generally from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
• Occasional evening hours for special programming may be required.
• Position limited to a maximum of 20 hours weekly.
• Work is performed onsite at the Parks and Recreation Magnolia Grange House Museum, Chesterfield County, Virginia.

Salary and Application Details

• Hourly pay ranges from $19.84 to $23.31.
