Job description

Role overview

The Heavy Goods Vehicle Mechanic will handle inspection, servicing, maintenance, and repair work across vehicles, plant, and equipment. The role must be carried out in line with legal requirements, company procedures, and manufacturer guidance.

Key responsibilities

  • Carry out maintenance, servicing, and repairs for HGV and LGV vehicles and related equipment.
  • Handle general application certification for hoists and cranes.
  • Ensure all work is completed to a high quality and in line with legislation, internal procedures, and manufacturer recommendations.
  • Escalate any faults or defects to the Lead Mechanic and/or Fleet Supervisor.
  • Work safely at all times and contribute positively to team performance and personal development.
  • Complete assigned repairs, testing, and certification work in a timely and cost-efficient manner.
  • Deliver a strong customer service experience.
  • Keep technical knowledge and practical skills up to date so duties can be performed in a sustainable and environmentally responsible way.
  • Work effectively both as part of a team and independently to support business goals.

Essential experience and qualifications

Applicants must have completed a recognised and relevant mechanical apprenticeship and obtained the appropriate craft accreditation certificate from FAS/Solas in at least one of the following:

  • Heavy Vehicle Mechanic
  • Motor Mechanic
  • Construction Plant Fitter, with relevant commercial vehicle experience
  • Agricultural Mechanic, with relevant commercial vehicle experience

A full clean EU Category B driving licence and access to a car are required, as travel will be needed.

Preferred experience

  • Three or more years of relevant work experience is desirable.
  • Hydraulics experience would be an advantage, though it is not mandatory.

Location and reporting line

The position is based at Sean Mulvoy Road, Galway, and reports to the Fleet & Equipment Supervisor in Galway.

Salary

The annual salary range is €44,000 to €50,000.
