Company Overview

Rotorua Forest Haulage is a transport and logistics specialist serving the forestry industry in and around Rotorua. The business is centered on moving heavy vehicles and machinery safely and efficiently to keep forest operations and timber transport running smoothly. Its teams operate in tough terrain and demanding timeframes while maintaining strict safety and environmental expectations. The company places a strong emphasis on dependable work, collaboration, and well-executed maintenance so its fleet stays reliable.

Role Summary

This full-time, on-site Heavy Diesel Mechanic position is based in Rotorua and focuses on keeping a fleet of heavy vehicles and equipment in excellent working order for forest haulage work. The role involves diagnosing faults, carrying out repairs, and completing routine servicing across engines, drivetrains, braking systems, hydraulics, suspensions, and electrical systems. Preventive maintenance is a key part of the job, along with accurate record-keeping and ensuring all work is completed in line with safety and regulatory requirements.

Key Duties

You will work with drivers, operations personnel, and other technicians to prioritize repair work, respond to breakdowns, and help maintain a safe, dependable fleet. Day-to-day work includes inspecting vehicles and machinery, identifying problems, performing scheduled servicing, and completing repairs to reduce downtime and support continuous operations.

Qualifications and Experience

The ideal candidate will have solid diesel mechanical ability and hands-on experience with heavy equipment and heavy vehicle maintenance. A trade qualification or certification in heavy diesel, automotive engineering, or a similar field is preferred, although equivalent practical experience may also be suitable. Experience with hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, and braking systems is important, as is the ability to work safely and follow health and safety requirements. You should be comfortable reading technical manuals, service bulletins, and diagnostic information, and you will need strong attention to detail, practical problem-solving ability, and the confidence to work both independently and in a team. A full valid driver’s licence is required, and a heavy vehicle licence would be an advantage. Experience in forestry, transport, or another heavy industry environment would be beneficial.

Work Environment

This is an on-site role in Rotorua, requiring hands-on work with heavy fleet assets and coordination with operational teams in a busy forestry transport setting.
