Job description
About the role
Symetra is hiring a Healthcare Data Analyst to work remotely in the United States. The position focuses on reviewing medical and pharmacy claims information to surface elevated-risk cases and support a more effective underwriting workflow. You will prepare claim summaries, analyze reporting data, and share findings with underwriters, nurses, and management.
Key responsibilities
- Carry out data reporting, analytics, and mining, and partner with the right teams to define useful analysis areas and metrics.
- Use clinical knowledge and data manipulation skills to examine large, detailed reports and flag people who may have catastrophic claims.
- Build Shock Claims Summaries by reviewing underwriting group reports, pulling out data on individuals with potentially severe conditions, and presenting the findings to Underwriting.
- Develop, document, maintain, and publish clear step-by-step review standards for underwriting reports such as UHC, Aetna, Cigna, and BCBS plans.
- Work closely with Underwriting and Medical Risk Consultants to review meaningful risk findings on new and renewal business experience reports.
- Handle additional assignments and special projects as needed.
Compensation
This role offers an hourly pay range of $29.83 to $49.68 and includes eligibility for an annual bonus program.
Benefits and perks
- Flexible full-time or hybrid telecommuting setup
- 401(k) plan with immediate vesting and company match of up to 6%
- Paid time off, including vacation, sick leave, flex days, and 10 paid holidays
- Company matching support for charitable giving to help amplify your impact
Who should apply
This role is suited to professionals with hands-on experience in medical coding, healthcare analytics, or reporting, especially in a remote environment. Candidates should be comfortable working independently, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and interpreting complex clinical and claims data.
Work authorization
Employer-sponsored visa support is not available for this position. Applicants must already be legally authorized to work in the United States at the time of hire and must keep that authorization throughout employment.
Remote work requirements
Because this is a remote-first role, employees must have an internet connection that meets Symetra’s standards: at least 100 Mbps download and 20 Mbps upload. Acceptable connection types include fiber, cable, and DSL. Satellite internet, cellular hotspots, and dial-up or other wireless alternatives are not allowed. Candidates will be asked to test and confirm their internet speed during the application process.
Identity verification
As part of the hiring process, candidates will need to appear on video for all interviews after the initial phone screen. The company may also take steps at different points in the process to confirm candidate identity and prevent fraudulent applications.
Important notice
Failure to follow the identity verification process may lead to removal from the hiring process, withdrawal of an offer, or termination of employment if fraud is discovered.
