Job description
Role overview
Nazareth House Dublin is a 120-bed care home in Dublin 3, with single en-suite rooms spread across the ground, first, and second floors. The facility also includes a chapel, hairdressing salon, activity room, library, and other amenities. It is positioned close to Clontarf Train Station and is well connected by public transport.
The home is guided by the values of compassion, respect, hospitality, patience, love, and justice. It is seeking a warm, caring Healthcare Assistant to support residents’ day-to-day wellbeing and help maintain a high standard of daily life. This is a strong opportunity for someone who wants to grow their skills in a supportive, team-based, multicultural care environment.
Job purpose
The role is focused on improving each resident’s quality of life through personalised, holistic care. The postholder will help promote independence and communicate effectively with residents as well as the wider multidisciplinary team.
Main duties
You will be responsible for delivering attentive care and supporting residents with personal and intimate care according to assessed needs. The role also involves helping with eating and drinking when required, encouraging a healthy and balanced diet, assisting with mobility, and supporting diversionary activities such as group activities and movement to music.
You will support nursing colleagues in overall resident care, including end-of-life care, and must stay alert to infection control requirements. Any change in a resident’s condition should be escalated promptly to the senior nurse on duty. At night, you will need to help maintain a calm environment by reducing unnecessary noise and bright lighting so residents can sleep undisturbed. Accurate record-keeping is also part of the job.
Health and safety
Because residents may have a high level of dependency, constant supervision across day and night is important for their safety and wellbeing. You must follow Nazareth Care Ireland’s health and safety policies, report defective equipment such as hoists straight away, and use transfer aids like slide sheets and handling belts correctly. Hoists must only be used when another staff member is present. You are also expected to understand evacuation and fire procedures.
Skills, experience and qualifications
The role requires FETAC Level 5 or equivalent relevant training. Previous experience caring for older people, ideally in a residential setting, is preferred. You should take a person-centred approach to care planning, work well in a team, and show evidence of ongoing professional development.
Strong communication skills are essential, along with a genuine interest in supporting older adults. The right candidate should bring a positive attitude, adapt well to changing needs, and be willing to contribute to care planning alongside nursing and other relevant staff. Manual handling and patient moving ability is also important.
Additional information
This position is based at Nazareth House, Malahide Road, Grace Park, Dublin, D03 KW08, and reports to the Director of Nursing.
The role sits within a lively care home environment and offers the chance to work with an experienced team in a diverse setting.
