Role overview
Irish Wheelchair Association is inviting applications from compassionate, committed healthcare assistants / personal assistants to join the team in Athlone.
The role is based in members’ homes and local communities, with a weekly commitment of 14.5 hours on a permanent contract. Availability for every second weekend is required.
What the role involves
The main aim of this position is to help members live as independently as possible in everyday life. Support may include personal care, domestic help, social and educational support, travel assistance, and companionship.
You will also work alongside other home carers where needed and stay in regular contact with the ALS Coordinator and scheduling team to ensure care is delivered smoothly.
Pay and allowances
The hourly rate is €16.22 to €18.03, depending on experience.
Additional pay applies for certain hours and days: before 8:00 am and after 8:00 pm, rates start from €20.27 per hour; Sundays are paid from €24.33 per hour; and public holidays are paid from €32.44 per hour.

What you need
Applicants should have completed at least 5 modules of the QQI Level 5 Major Award in Community Health Services, Health Service Skills, Healthcare Support, or another relevant qualification, and must be willing to complete the full major award.
Previous experience in a caring role is essential. You also need to be dependable, trustworthy, able to maintain confidentiality, and comfortable communicating clearly in spoken and written English.
A full driving licence and access to your own car are required.
