The Healthcare Aide supports patients receiving mental health services by helping with everyday care tasks while maintaining safety, dignity, and emotional comfort. The role partners closely with the clinical team to help create a therapeutic, respectful, and patient-focused setting.

Responsibilities

  • Support patients with routine daily activities such as personal hygiene, movement, meals, and comfort, while preserving their dignity and respect.
  • Monitor patients for changes in behavior, mood, or physical condition and promptly share accurate updates with the clinical team.
  • Assist with carrying out care plans under the direction of nurses and mental health professionals.
  • Help keep the care setting safe, clean, and therapeutic in line with infection prevention, safety, and mental health care standards.
  • Offer reassurance and emotional support to patients to encourage a calm and supportive environment.
  • Follow confidentiality requirements, ethical practices, organizational policies, and respect for patient rights and well-being.

Requirements

  • A high school certificate or an equivalent qualification is required; Healthcare Aide or Nursing Assistant certification is preferred.
  • At least 1 to 3 years of experience in healthcare or mental health support is needed; prior mental health experience is considered an advantage.
  • Working knowledge of patient care, safety procedures, and infection control practices.
  • A compassionate, patient-centered attitude with strong communication abilities.
