Role Overview

The Healthcare Aide at the Postnatal Department is vital in supporting new mothers and their infants during the recovery phase after childbirth. Operating under the supervision of registered nurses and midwives, the aide provides essential patient care, promotes comfort, safety, and hygiene for both mother and baby, and maintains a clean, well-organized clinical setting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist mothers with personal care, hygiene maintenance, and mobility post-delivery
  • Provide basic newborn care such as bathing, diaper changing, and hygiene upkeep
  • Support breastfeeding efforts in collaboration with nursing staff
  • Facilitate early mobilization of postnatal and post-operative patients
  • Help prepare patients for medical procedures and examinations
  • Ensure cleanliness, safety, and orderliness within patient areas
  • Maintain baby cots, medical equipment, and supply readiness
  • Manage inventory of unit stocks and consumables
  • Assist with patient feeding, hydration, and comfort needs
  • Respond promptly to patient call bells and requests
  • Escort mothers and newborns to diagnostic tests or transfers as needed
  • Adhere strictly to infection control standards, including hand hygiene and PPE use
  • Dispose of clinical waste according to hospital regulations
  • Offer emotional support to mothers and their families while preserving privacy and dignity
  • Communicate effectively with patients and multidisciplinary teams
  • Participate in mandatory training and uphold necessary clinical competencies

Required Qualifications

  • Completion of a certified nursing assistant program is preferred
  • Experience working in inpatient settings, gynecology, or labor and delivery units
