Job description

Role purpose

This position exists to help put Barrick Exploration’s health and safety management system into practice by ensuring compliance with internal policies, standards, procedures, and legal requirements. The job is focused on lowering the chance of recordable incidents during high-risk exploration activities such as mobile equipment use, drilling, geophysical and seismic surveys, earthworks, and general field work, while supporting a safe-discovery approach across exploration operations.

What you will do

  • Oversee the rollout and day-to-day application of the Barrick Exploration Health & Safety Management System.
  • Provide practical, field-level safety support across remote exploration settings, including drilling, geophysics, mapping, sampling, rock and sediment sampling, reconnaissance work, and camp setup.
  • Apply the company’s risk management approach to identify hazards, control unwanted events, and reduce the likelihood of serious incidents.
  • Take part in and encourage daily safety checks of work zones, drill pads, exploration camps, and access routes.
  • Support safety training, fatality risk controls, and life-saving control initiatives.
  • Participate in and help lead incident investigations.
  • Guide teams on compliance with Jamaican health and safety laws as well as corporate standards.
  • Track key H&S metrics, including leading and lagging indicators, to support KPI delivery.
  • Monitor contractor safety performance and confirm alignment with Barrick requirements and legal obligations.
  • Review, refresh, and help implement emergency response plans, drills, and response procedures.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree in Safety Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a similar field.
  • At least 5 years of experience in occupational health and safety, with a minimum of 3 years specifically in mineral exploration.
  • Background in Greenfield exploration projects in tropical settings and rotational camp-based operations in Central America.
  • Hands-on experience with Diamond Drilling (DDH), Reverse Circulation (RC), and geophysical exploration programs.
  • Solid understanding of mining H&S rules and standards, including ISO 45001 and relevant local legislation.
  • A valid driver’s licence.
  • Willingness to travel internationally and work on rotational schedules across different locations in Jamaica.
  • English language ability at intermediate to advanced level.
