Role Overview

We seek a Health and Safety Specialist to take charge of Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) compliance throughout Bolt's African regions and selected satellite countries. Acting as the regional authority, you will perform audits, transform safety data into actionable insights, coordinate with external partners, and ensure that every Bolt team maintains high safety standards.

This role involves high responsibility, requiring collaboration with Operations, People, Hardware Engineering, and senior management, as well as leading educational campaigns on global safety awareness.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

• Ensure that Bolt complies with all applicable OHS legal requirements across African markets, including conducting risk assessments, mandatory safety training, and maintaining required statutory records.
• Perform routine audits in key and satellite markets to identify deficiencies and drive resolutions.
• Establish and supervise Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) Committees in jurisdictions where mandated by local law.
• Manage the health and safety data dashboard by gathering, analyzing, and delivering quarterly performance reports to leadership.
• Design, implement, and evaluate worldwide OHS training and awareness initiatives.
• Assist satellite teams by providing compliance advice and overseeing external H&S consultants to ensure fulfillment of their roles.
• Lead investigations into incidents and crises, communicating findings transparently to stakeholders.
• Participate in the review and maintenance of global Standard Operating Procedures related to safety to ensure they are current and consistent.

Candidate Profile

• Holds an academic degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Health and Safety, Engineering, Risk Management, Compliance, Industrial Hygiene, or a relevant discipline.
• Possesses professional certifications such as NEBOSH, ISO 45001 auditor certification, or an equivalent credential.
• Brings substantial practical experience in OHS compliance within at least one market.
• Has a proven history of conducting audits, managing safety documentation, and delivering safety training or communication campaigns.
• Demonstrates proficiency with data management—capable of creating or maintaining dashboards, identifying trends, and articulating insights effectively to non-technical audiences.
• Communicates clearly and confidence in English, both in written safety materials and when presenting to senior leaders.
• Experienced in collaborating with or managing external safety consultants.
