Role Overview

We are seeking a seasoned and dynamic Health & Safety Manager to lead health and safety functions for our UK and Ireland operations. Reporting to the Europe Zone Senior QSHE Manager, you will be the principal operational health and safety leader interfacing with project teams, contractors, clients, and senior leaders to maintain the highest health and safety standards throughout our Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects' lifecycle.

This position is highly collaborative and visible, managing health and safety practices across project development, construction, commissioning, operations, and service phases. Collaboration with the wider European QSHE team is essential to ensure continual legal compliance, process improvements, and uphold Fluence's Integrated Management System.

Primary Responsibilities

• Lead the operational rollout of Fluence's health and safety strategy in UK and Ireland regions.
• Deliver expert advice and ongoing operational support regarding health and safety to project teams and senior management.
• Cultivate a proactive safety culture through leadership, coaching, and engaging stakeholders actively.
• Ensure stringent adherence to all applicable UK and Irish health and safety legislation, internal company policies, and client standards.
• Support project phases — from development and engineering to commissioning and operations — with health and safety oversight.
• Assess and validate risk assessments, method statements, and safe work systems.
• Conduct site inspections, audits, contractor assessments, and assurance activities to confirm compliance and identify areas for continual improvements.
• Provide health and safety expertise during supplier and Factory Acceptance Tests within your competence scope.
• Lead or assist in incident investigations to identify root causes and implement effective corrective actions.
• Initiate and monitor health and safety improvement plans based on data-driven performance trends.
• Manage contractor engagement processes including competence evaluation, mobilization, and ongoing performance monitoring.
• Offer expert guidance on Construction (Design and Management) Regulations and corresponding Irish legislation.
• Assist with development and delivery of health and safety training, inductions, toolbox talks, and awareness programs.
• Maintain strong relationships with clients, contractors, regulatory bodies, and external parties.
• Represent Fluence in client meetings, inspections, audits, and other regulatory interactions as required.
• Provide support for tender processes, client due diligence, insurance reviews, and supplier assessments.
• Collaborate with the Europe Environmental Compliance Manager for environmental compliance integration within your remit.
• Assist the UK & Ireland Quality Manager with quality-related activities within your competence.
• Partner with European health and safety colleagues to promote best practices, consistency, and support wider QSHE initiatives.
• Serve as the subject matter expert for office/workplace health and safety issues when required, while operational responsibility for office facilities lies with facilities management.

Qualifications & Experience

• Level 6 qualification in Occupational Health and Safety or a recognized equivalent credential.
• Chartered Membership (or working toward) with IOSH.
• Extensive operational health and safety experience within the construction, infrastructure, utilities, renewable energy, electrical engineering, or other high-risk sectors.
• Comprehensive understanding of UK and Irish health and safety legislation.
• Proven experience supporting construction, commissioning, and operational health and safety activities.
• Strong background in audits, inspections, compliance reviews, and incident investigations.
• Experience managing contractors and collaborating in multi-disciplinary project environments.
• Excellent communication, coaching, and stakeholder engagement abilities.
• Holds a valid driving license for UK and Ireland, with readiness for travel as needed.
• Willingness to travel regularly within the UK and Ireland, frequently across Europe, and occasionally internationally outside Europe.

Additional Skills

• Knowledge of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS).
• Familiarity with high voltage electrical infrastructure.
• Experience in renewable energy projects.
• Expertise with UK CDM regulations and Irish construction safety legislation.
• Understanding of ISO 45001 management systems.
• Auditing experience inclusive of internal, supplier, and contractor audits.
• Capable of supporting multinational organizational health and safety operations.
• Awareness of operational environmental considerations.
