Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Health, Safety & Environmental Advisor to join our Cork site. The advisor will collaborate with site management and teams to reinforce safe working habits, develop risk assessments, and implement safe operational procedures to ensure a secure and compliant work environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Keep abreast of all relevant health, safety, and environmental legislation and inform the Site Managing Director accordingly.
  • Ensure the site adheres to current health and safety laws, best practices, and approved codes of practice (ACOP) to maintain a safe workplace.
  • Guarantee compliance with environmental legislation and ensure no harmful practices impact the environment negatively.
  • Oversee risk assessment (RA) and safe working operating procedures (SWOP), ensuring supervisors and managers regularly update these documents as per standards and legislation.
  • Deliver health and safety induction training to new employees, contractors, and visitors.
  • Manage near-miss and accident reporting processes to ensure thorough investigation and documentation according to standards and laws.
  • Ensure prompt implementation of corrective actions following incident investigations by site management.
  • Maintain up-to-date health, safety, and environmental documentation aligned with the latest HSE formats.
  • Identify core risks and underlying issues, engaging with colleagues and management across the site.
  • Maintain the register of Interactive Safety Tours (IST) and monitor site managers’ compliance with the touring schedule.
  • Conduct internal audits of the site’s health, safety, and environmental aspects.
  • Take a proactive, hands-on role in developing and continuously updating the site safety plan.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety training requirements.
  • Organize and facilitate the tri-monthly site safety committee meetings, ensuring wide representation and distributing meeting notes.
  • Keep health, safety, and environmental information boards current and informative.
  • Collect, compile, and report weekly and monthly Divisional HSE key performance indicators externally.
  • Manage inventories of personal protective equipment (PPE) and related supplies to safeguard staff welfare.

Candidate Profile

  • Holds an undergraduate degree or equivalent (EQF Level 6) qualification.
  • Possesses 3 to 5 years of relevant professional experience.
  • Has practical knowledge of formal management systems.
  • Is an active member of IOSH or a similarly recognized professional health and safety body.
  • Communicates complex topics clearly and professionally at all organizational levels.
  • Demonstrates self-discipline and the ability to complete projects and tasks within agreed deadlines.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint to prepare professional reports and communications.
