About the role
The Brick is looking for a health and safety coordinator who brings a strong service mindset, builds positive working relationships, stays highly organized, and is genuinely interested in workplace health and safety. This is a 6-month contract role with the potential to be extended. The role sits within the human resources team and reports to the National Health and Safety Director. The selected candidate will support the administration of health and safety policies and procedures, provide guidance on safety legislation and occupational requirements, and help maintain occupational health and safety prevention programs.
Location and work setting
This position is based onsite at 16904 - 137 Avenue, Edmonton, AB T5V 0C8.
Responsibilities
- Lead and support health and safety initiatives, including related training activities.
- Assess safety programs and functional activities to identify training needs, then prepare a training matrix and schedule to ensure required training stays compliant with legislation.
- Coordinate incident investigations and track follow-up actions through to completion.
- Encourage a preventative safety culture while helping control workers’ safety-related claim costs.
- Support the administration of workers’ compensation disability claims and modified return-to-work plans.
- Help ensure compliance with documented safety standards by carrying out monthly inspections, hazard reviews, and periodic audits, and by assigning corrective actions for hazards found during property inspections.
- Monitor occupational health and safety programs and check alignment with applicable provincial regulations.
- Organize meetings and provide support to the Joint Health & Safety Committee.
- Prepare weekly and monthly reports.
Qualifications
- Enrollment in, or completion of, an OH&S certificate program is required; post-secondary education in business, human resources, or a similar field is considered an advantage.
- At least 1 year of related experience is preferred.
- Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
- Comfortable using computers and MS Office applications.
- Working knowledge of relevant OH&S and workers’ compensation policies.
- Self-driven, organized, and capable of making practical decisions.
- Strong customer orientation, results focus, and the ability to manage multiple competing priorities and deadlines.
