Overview
Auckland Council is seeking a dedicated Health, Safety and Wellbeing (HSW) Business Partner to join our expanding team in a full-time, permanent position. As the organisation adapts to new responsibilities following Transport Reform, we are enhancing our capabilities across health, safety, wellbeing, occupational health, injury management, training, contractor safety, and business partnering to foster safe and thriving workplaces across Auckland.
Role Responsibilities
- Collaborate closely with managers, team leaders, and staff to strengthen HSW across the portfolio, understanding operational environments including objectives, risks, and challenges.
- Provide expert guidance on managing risks, supporting compliance with legislation and council policies, and advising on strategic health and safety initiatives.
- Encourage proactive reduction of risks, facilitate incident investigations and learning processes, monitor system performance and reporting, and promote accountability for HSW throughout the organisation.
- Support departments in maintaining risk registers, emergency response plans, and submitting accurate health and safety reports.
- Lead and embed change management and improvement initiatives to enhance organisational health, safety, and wellbeing outcomes.
Candidate Profile
- Holds a relevant tertiary qualification in Health and Safety Management or an equivalent NZISM-recognised qualification.
- Brings a minimum of seven years operational experience in a health, safety, and wellbeing role within complex, diverse organisations.
- Accredited as a health and safety professional by a HASANZ body, preferably NZISM.
- Well-versed in current health and safety legislation, including case law and practical application of obligations for Persons Conducting a Business or Undertaking (PCBU).
- Experienced in implementing and improving health and safety systems, audits, and reporting frameworks.
- Able to challenge conventional approaches constructively to foster continuous improvement and stronger outcomes.
