Qualifications

Candidates must meet one of the following qualification standards:

  • Degreed Career and Technical Candidates: Possess a bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited institution and hold valid Florida Department of Education certification or Statement of Eligibility within an appropriate area listed in the State Curriculum Frameworks.
  • Non-Degreed Career and Technical Candidates: Must have a high school diploma or GED plus six years of full-time occupational experience in the relevant certification area; alternatively, two years of full-time occupational experience combined with either an AA/AS/bachelor's degree in the career subject, completion of a state-approved apprenticeship or career and technical education training program, or licensure through a state or national credentialing agency.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with school administrators and instructional teams to design and implement practical, hands-on learning experiences.
  • Engage actively as a member of the faculty and staff community.
  • Contribute to school improvement efforts through planning, execution, and assessment of educational programs.
  • Manage classrooms and supervise care of instructional equipment.
  • Participate in continuous professional development activities.
  • Assess and analyze student development to tailor educational approaches.
  • Apply diverse instructional methods to address individual student needs.
  • Incorporate technology and current educational research into teaching strategies.
  • Regularly evaluate student progress and maintain accurate records including grade books and attendance.
  • Implement effective classroom management techniques conducive to a positive learning environment.
  • Demonstrate sensitivity toward students, parents, and the broader community to support student self-esteem and well-being.
  • Maintain active communication with parents via conferences, calls, or written correspondence, especially for adult and career-technical education students.
  • Encourage parental participation in school activities to strengthen home-school connections.
  • Protect school and student property diligently.
  • Maintain proficiency with district technology tools and attend related training to ensure necessary competencies.
  • Fulfill additional duties as assigned by the principal or director.

Physical and Environmental Requirements

  • Physical tasks typically involve moderate exertion such as stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and lifting or moving materials weighing 12-20 pounds.
  • Tasks require good visual perception and oral communication abilities; auditory discrimination is also sometimes necessary.
  • Work environment exposure includes potential contact with dirt, dust, pollen, odors, moisture, variable temperatures, noise, machinery vibrations, electrical hazards, wildlife, toxic substances, and potential exposure to violence, disease, or pathogens depending on course content.

Evaluation and Reporting

The employee’s performance will be assessed according to the Orange County Public Schools Instructional Personnel Evaluation System.

Position Specifics

This full-time role is based at Orange Technical College located in Orlando, FL. Candidates must hold certification as a Medical Assistant (CMA-AAMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA AMT) along with two years of full-time or four years of part-time experience.
