Role Overview

This entry-level Health Information Specialist I position centers on handling medical record requests with speed and accuracy. The role plays an important part in protecting patient privacy, managing release-of-information tasks, and following applicable regulations and internal policies to keep health data accurate and properly handled.

Key Responsibilities

  • Handle requests for patient health information in line with established procedures.
  • Protect confidentiality and maintain patient privacy at all times.
  • Use company and facility systems and software efficiently.
  • Work in accordance with organizational policies, procedures, and standards of conduct.
  • Keep management informed about workflow issues and changes in volume.
  • Take on other related tasks as needed.
  • Apply medical privacy rules consistently in daily work.
  • Maintain and secure patient records in compliance with HIPAA.
  • Set up new patient charts and collect the required documents.
  • Assemble records and check them for completeness and accuracy.
  • Scan paper documents into digital images for electronic files.
  • Answer requests for patient records from both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Manage incoming and outgoing phone calls.
  • Support walk-in patients and carry out administrative work such as faxing, opening mail, and entering data.
  • Work toward productivity targets.
  • Arrange record pick-ups when necessary.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Ability to travel or commute between work locations.
  • Flexibility to work overtime during busy periods.
  • Basic computer literacy.
  • Comfort using phones, fax machines, printers, and standard office equipment.
  • Strong spoken and written English communication skills.
  • Careful attention to detail, especially when handling compliant medical information.
  • Good data entry speed and accuracy.
  • Ability to work without close supervision and adjust to shifting priorities.
  • Well-developed organizational skills for managing multiple tasks.
  • Ability to respond quickly in a busy, fast-moving setting.

Compensation

The role is paid at an estimated base rate of USD 15 per hour.
