Overview
Heart of the Rockies Regional Medical Center is looking for a Health Information Management (HIM) Specialist I to support the administrative and records functions of the HIM department in Salida, Colorado. This role helps protect the accuracy and security of both physical and electronic patient records while supporting patient-centered care in the local community.
What you'll do
In this position, you will handle a variety of health records tasks, including retrieving files, preparing charts for use, scanning and indexing documents, filing records, importing information, and reconciling medical charts. You will also review and process confidential health information requests from authorized parties, while working within HIPAA requirements and Colorado regulations.
Key responsibilities
- Preserve the accuracy and completeness of paper and digital health records.
- Pull, prepare, scan, index, file, import, and reconcile patient medical documentation.
- Evaluate and respond to confidential records requests from approved requestors.
- Follow HIPAA standards and other applicable compliance rules.
- Deliver strong service to both internal teams and outside requestors.
Preferred background
The preferred candidate has at least 3 years of experience in a business, health information management, or healthcare environment. Prior success in customer service is important, along with experience using electronic health record systems. An associate degree in a healthcare-related subject is preferred, and training in medical terminology is considered an added advantage.
