Job description
Role Overview
As a Health Care Aide (HCA) at Alberta Health Services, you will be an essential part of a multidisciplinary team, providing personal support to patients who need short-term help or ongoing assistance according to their care plans and facility guidelines. Your work will involve collaborating closely with patients, their families, and caregivers across various settings including home, community, and health care facilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist patients with daily living activities such as hygiene, nutrition, mobility, recreation, and safety.
- Help organize and support patient activities or programs.
- Observe patient conditions including mood and health, and promptly report to nursing staff.
- Work under the supervision of regulated health professionals to maintain a safe environment for everyone.
- Facilitate effective communication between patients and healthcare teams.
Compensation and Benefits
Alongside a competitive salary ranging from $26.43 to $29.58 per hour, a Remote Retention Allowance of up to $3,000 annually (non-pensionable) is provided, calculated on hours paid at the basic rate.
Schedule and Location
- Primary workplace: Hythe Continuing Care Centre, Hythe, Alberta.
- Regular full-time position with 11.08-hour shifts.
- Shifts cover days, evenings, weekends, and nights with rotational days off.
- Shift pattern spans 42 shifts over a 12-week cycle.
Qualifications
- Active or eligible registration with the College of LPNs and HCAs of Alberta (CLHA) as a Health Care Aide.
- Proof of Health Care Aide Certificate education or completion within 18 months of hire.
- Additional and preferred qualifications as required by the role.
Important Notes
New hires without proof of HCA certification will be compensated at the uncertified pay grade per the AUPE AUX Collective Agreement. This position is regular full-time employment, part of the AUPE AUX unit, under Assisted Living Alberta classification.
