Role overview
A leading main contractor in Cork is hiring a Health & Safety Officer to support a growing portfolio of construction projects across the region. This position is aimed at someone at junior to mid-level who wants strong exposure, room to progress, and the chance to work closely with experienced safety and project teams.
The package on offer is €45,000 to €60,000 plus additional benefits.
What you will do
- Carry out routine site checks and audits to confirm compliance with health and safety laws and internal procedures.
- Help site management teams put health and safety policies and safe systems of work into practice.
- Deliver site inductions and toolbox talks for employees and subcontractors.
- Support the preparation and review of risk assessments and method statements (RAMS).
- Track subcontractor compliance and help build a strong safety-first culture on site.
- Look into accidents, incidents, and near misses, then ensure corrective actions are carried through.
- Keep health and safety records and documentation updated according to company standards.
- Report on safety performance and suggest improvements for ongoing compliance and performance.
- Work with project teams, subcontractors, and outside stakeholders on health and safety matters.
- Stay current on health and safety legislation and industry best practice.
Requirements
- A degree in Occupational Health & Safety or a closely related subject.
- Between 1 and 5 years of experience in a health and safety role within construction.
- Good understanding of health and safety legislation and how construction sites operate.
- Strong communication and people skills.
- Ability to work on your own as well as with a broader project team.
- Well-developed organisation and reporting abilities.
- Full driving licence.
