Job description

Role overview

The Health and Safety Officer will be responsible for shaping, rolling out, and tracking health and safety policies across electrical and mechanical projects. The position focuses on creating safer work environments, reducing risk, and ensuring day-to-day activities meet required safety standards.

Key duties

Core work will include carrying out risk assessments, visiting sites to inspect conditions, and performing safety audits. The role also involves identifying hazards, advising on corrective measures, and supporting the maintenance of a strong safety culture across project teams.

In addition, the officer will conduct safety induction sessions, toolbox talks, and other training activities to keep workers informed and compliant with safe working practices.

Compliance and documentation

This role requires close attention to local legal requirements and company certification standards. The officer will keep safety records current, document incidents, and monitor implementation of agreed safety controls and procedures.

Collaboration

Working closely with project managers, engineers, technicians, and external regulators will be an important part of the job. The goal is to strengthen workplace safety performance and drive continuous improvement across all projects.

Qualifications and experience

  • Strong capability in health and safety management, workplace safety, and the development of practical safety programs.
  • Good working knowledge of occupational health and environmental, health, and safety (EHS) practices, including risk identification and control.
  • Professional safety certification such as NEBOSH, or an equivalent recognized qualification, is expected.
  • Experience in construction, electrical, mechanical, renewable energy, or oil and gas settings will be an advantage.
  • Solid understanding of both local and international safety regulations, with the ability to communicate clearly and influence different teams.
  • A diploma or degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related discipline is beneficial.

Location preference

Applicants based in Mombasa and the surrounding areas will be prioritized.
