Sanmina's Fermoy, Ireland facility is FDA registered and certified to ISO 13485:2016, specializing in the production of high-quality PCBAs, subassemblies, and Class III medical devices. With three decades of proven operational excellence, the plant delivers comprehensive product lifecycle services, from New Product Introduction to large-scale manufacturing, testing, shipping, and repairs within a highly skilled workforce.
Position Objective
The role aims to establish and maintain a Health and Safety Management system compliant with all relevant Irish and EU regulations, ensuring safe operations across the facility.
Primary Responsibilities
- Coordinate health and safety activities to maintain adherence to the organization's management system standards.
- Collaborate with management to define health and safety goals and periodically revise policies and safety statements as necessary.
- Lead risk assessment reviews and assist team leaders in developing strategies to reduce hazards; conduct accident investigations and propose corrective measures.
- Perform safety audits and inspections to monitor compliance, aiming to enhance the overall quality and standards of the safety system.
- Design and implement programs focused on accident prevention and reduction aligned with continuous improvement goals.
- Develop, organize, and deliver appropriate health and safety training initiatives in conjunction with the training department.
- Promote safety awareness by guiding the application of effective management safety practices.
- Track health and safety performance metrics and report findings regularly to management and safety committees.
- Contribute to maintaining the Aspect & Impact Register to ensure compliance with internal, corporate, and legislative health and safety requirements.
- Participate in emergency response planning and coordinate evacuation drills.
- Partner with HR to create tactics that minimize legal claims and insurance costs, preparing necessary defenses if required.
- Work alongside Manufacturing Engineering to verify new designs and line changes meet safety compliance.
- Present quarterly health and safety results to the management team.
- Chair the Safety Committee and direct its initiatives.
- Ensure safety training activities are well-coordinated and compliant within the plant.
- Align corporate health and safety reporting and policy requirements with site operations.
- Liaise with operational management to develop Standard Operating Procedures that address safety needs.
- Provide support and advice on managing organizational changes impacting safety.
- Oversee chemical usage on-site to ensure safety compliance.
- Maintain conformity with quality and industry regulations related to safety.
- Ensure strict compliance with all applicable Health & Safety legislation and regulations.
Qualifications and Experience
- Diploma or degree in Health and Safety or related field, aligned with NQF Level 7 or equivalent.
- A minimum of five years' professional experience in health and safety roles.
- Proven ability to develop and embed health and safety functions within management frameworks and to lead organizational change.
Desirable Skills and Experience
- Familiarity with ISO or OHSAS standards and current health and safety legislation.
- Experience in environmental or sustainability management.
Core Competencies
- Exceptional interpersonal communication skills with diverse internal and external stakeholders.
- Prior management experience within a health and safety context.
