Job description

About the Role

This position is for a senior plant engineering leader to support a large greenfield gigafactory project in Gujarat. The role sits with an energy transition business focused on delivering advanced solar and sustainable energy solutions. The selected professional will operate as the owner’s engineering lead for plant infrastructure, ensuring that all civil, structural, mechanical, electrical and utility systems are designed, reviewed, executed and handed over to the required standard.

Role Purpose

The Head - Plant Engineering will oversee plant infrastructure for the gigafactory, acting as the owner’s engineer for civil works, MEP systems, HVAC, dry rooms and compressed dry air systems. This person will review consultant and EPC submissions, verify design intent, and make sure the facility is built for safe, compliant and reliable operations.

Experience and Qualification

The role calls for more than 15 years of experience in plant engineering for large industrial or manufacturing facilities. Background as an owner’s engineer or PMC on a greenfield gigafactory, pharmaceutical plant or semiconductor facility is strongly preferred. The ideal candidate should hold a BE/B.Tech/Master’s degree in Civil, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, with prior exposure to large industrial plant setup. Experience with cleanroom and controlled-environment facilities will be an added advantage.

Core Competencies

  • Deep understanding of gigafactory-scale infrastructure, including dry rooms, cleanrooms, HVAC systems and electrolyte handling.
  • Proven experience in an owner’s engineer or PMC capacity on greenfield industrial projects.
  • Ability to examine, question and approve drawings, BOQs and technical specifications.
  • Working knowledge of Indian statutory approvals such as Factory Act requirements, electrical inspectorate approvals, PESO, fire NOC and environmental clearances.
  • Familiarity with FAT, SAT, punch list closure and commissioning workflows.
  • Strong collaboration, coordination and stakeholder management capability.
  • Commercial judgement to identify contractual risk, prevent scope creep and protect project interests.

Key Responsibilities

  • Function as the owner’s engineer by reviewing civil, structural, MEP, HVAC, dry room and compressed dry air designs prepared by consultants and EPC partners.
  • Set technical specifications and performance expectations for critical utilities such as dry rooms, HVAC, cleanroom classifications, process water, compressed air, fire suppression and HT/LT electrical systems.
  • Scrutinize and approve engineering drawings, BOQs and technical documents submitted by consultants and contractors.
  • Coordinate with engineering consultants so that design deliverables align with gigafactory requirements and project timelines.
  • Hold consultants and EPC contractors responsible for quality, schedules and technical compliance.
  • Work with manufacturing engineering teams to address equipment installation needs and facility constraints.
  • Support installation and commissioning activities, witness important milestones, verify workmanship quality and manage punch list closure.
  • Ensure Site Acceptance Testing is completed according to specification for plant utilities and equipment.
  • Lead the transition from construction to operations, making sure systems are tested, documented and ready for use.
  • Confirm compliance with Indian statutory and regulatory requirements, including factory building rules, electrical safety, fire NOC, environmental clearances and BIS/IS standards.
  • Coordinate and track PESO approvals for electrolyte storage and other hazardous material areas.
  • Maintain liaison with regulatory authorities and preserve all approvals through the project lifecycle.
  • Keep as-built records, O&M manuals and handover documentation complete and audit-ready before operational transfer.
  • Plan infrastructure systems with long-term operation and maintenance requirements in mind.

Eligibility

This opportunity is open to candidates with a B.Tech / B.E. in any specialization, along with the required senior-level plant engineering background. The role is best suited to professionals who have worked on large-scale industrial, manufacturing or greenfield facility projects.
