Job description

Overview

Our client, based in New York City, is seeking an experienced Head of Talent to establish and lead their recruitment function from inception. This role involves partnering closely with the CEO to source and secure exceptional talent, assisting in the organization's mission to tackle youth mental health challenges. It offers significant ownership and an impactful, foundational leadership opportunity.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and own the entire hiring process, including managing relationships with external agencies, aiming to recruit 25-30 employees within the next nine months.
  • Design and implement proactive, network-based strategies to identify outstanding candidates, particularly in engineering, product management, and design.
  • Create recruiting infrastructure from the ground up, encompassing processes, systems, and training programs for interviewers.
  • Collaborate directly with the CEO and leadership team on recruitment planning, organizational design, and compensation frameworks.
  • Function as the sole talent acquisition operator during the first 6 to 12 months, overseeing every step from sourcing candidates to closing offers before expanding the team.

Role Requirements

  • A minimum of six years in end-to-end recruiting or equivalent entrepreneurial experience building and recruiting teams.
  • Proven experience in establishing recruiting functions from scratch.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct full-cycle recruitment across diverse functions such as engineering, product, design, operations, and leadership roles.
  • Background in technology-focused startups or entrepreneurial ventures, with added value from founder or venture capital talent partner experience.
  • Technical proficiency with applicant tracking systems and development of sourcing tools.
  • Expertise in innovative and network-driven sourcing techniques targeting passive candidates.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills characterized by warmth, empathy, and a sales-oriented approach.
  • Strong commitment to working onsite at the New York City office five days per week.
  • Passion for mental health initiatives and mission-driven company cultures is essential.

Additional Information

This position is best suited for candidates who have thrived in startup or smaller company environments rather than large, well-established recruitment teams.
