Exergy3 is a Scottish clean technology firm focused on developing and bringing to market a high-temperature Thermal Energy Storage (TES) system for reducing carbon emissions in industry. Their innovative technology converts surplus electricity into heat stored and distributed as process steam or hot air directly to industrial plants, replacing natural gas and aiding industrial decarbonization without requiring major process redesigns.

With over half of global CO₂ emissions coming from industrial heat processes, Exergy3 offers a dependable, scalable, and cost-efficient solution that supports industry in reducing carbon impact without sacrificing operational efficiency. Having recently secured funding, the company is shifting from development to commercial rollout, targeting product readiness, partner ecosystem building, and scaling as key milestones, with this role dedicated to the partner and supplier ecosystem.

Role Overview

This position, based in either Edinburgh or Munich, leads the creation and management of the company’s supply chain as it transitions from prototype to repeatable commercial production. It is a strategic leadership role involving designing the supply chain architecture, establishing manufacturing partnerships crucial for scalability, and ensuring the products remain manufacturable, affordable, and deliverable.

The Head of Supply Chain & Strategic Partnerships collaborates closely with technical, project delivery, and commercial teams and reports directly to the Chief Commercial Officer. This role provides significant autonomy, leadership exposure, and influence over company operational culture during rapid expansion.

Key Responsibilities

Formulate and take ownership of the company's comprehensive supply chain strategy covering raw materials to customer delivery processes.
Build and expand a supplier and manufacturing partner ecosystem capable of scaling production from first-of-a-kind (FOAK) units to repeatable series (NOAK).
Develop sourcing strategies for critical elements such as heating components, refractory materials, pressure vessels, electrical and control systems, and insulation.
Enhance supply chain resilience, lead times, and continuous supply as the product portfolio and customer base grow.
Design the supply chain structure for European operations, particularly for the Munich site, including fabrication partnerships and logistics.
Establish and nurture long-term manufacturing collaborations with specialist fabricators and suppliers that meet quality, cost, and delivery requirements.
Onboard new partners especially focusing on DACH region fabricators to support European expansion.
Negotiate contracts, framework agreements, and preferred supplier arrangements that offer predictability and supply security.
Manage relationships with strategic partners and subcontractors from commercial and operational perspectives.
Lead procurement activities ensuring competitive supplier selection, contract management, and project-aligned deliveries.
Handle RFQs, tenders, supplier negotiations, contract development, and dispute resolution effectively.
Drive continuous cost reduction efforts without compromising quality or delivery timelines.
Oversee post-Brexit import/export processes between the UK and Europe.
Qualify and evaluate suppliers against technical capabilities, quality standards, and financial stability.
Implement and manage supplier performance monitoring, including KPIs and improvement plans.
Promote supplier development, conduct audits, and manage non-conformance actions.
Align product design with manufacturing capabilities to improve manufacturability, repeatability, and costs, providing input early in development cycles.
Support project delivery teams by coordinating supply chains to meet schedules and mitigate risks.
Develop procurement policies, authority levels, and governance frameworks suitable for a growing company.
Identify and manage supply chain risks including supplier dependencies and geopolitical factors.
Support the application of quality management systems such as ISO 9001 across supply activities.

Required Qualifications and Skills

Degree or equivalent experience in a relevant technical field.
Extensive leadership experience in industrial supply chains, procurement, or manufacturing for complex engineered products.
Proven ability to build and grow supplier networks rather than managing existing lists.
Experience in overseeing outsourced manufacturing and contract manufacturers.
Strong contract negotiation skills including framework and supplier performance agreements.
Capability in managing commercial disputes and contract recoveries.
Working knowledge alongside engineering teams to translate technical requirements into supplier specifications.
Proficiency in reading engineering drawings, P&IDs, and technical specs with technical credibility for discussions with fabricators and engineers.

Preferred Experience

Background in energy systems, industrial equipment, process industries or capital equipment supply chains.
Experience managing EPC-style multi-supplier project delivery.
Experience in early-stage or scaling technology companies.
Familiarity with industrial operations.
European supplier network, notably in industrial manufacturing, with German language skills advantageous for Munich involvement.
Use of procurement software and tools.
