Head of Special Education Services - Remote Cluster Schools, Queensland

Position Overview

We invite applications from seasoned, creative, and student-focused educators to assume the role of Head of Special Education Services. This leadership role involves overseeing and harmonizing inclusive education efforts across a network of remote schools.

The cluster comprises Hughenden State School, Richmond State School, Julia Creek State School, and Cameron Downs State School, all serving rural and remote communities with diverse student populations.

Cluster Details

• Hughenden State School: Prep to Year 12, located in Flinders Shire, approximately 380 km west of Townsville, with a 0.73 full-time equivalent (FTE).
• Richmond State School: Prep to Year 12, situated around 110 km west of Hughenden in Richmond Shire, with a 0.11 FTE.
• Julia Creek State School: Prep to Year 12, roughly 150 km west of Richmond in McKinlay Shire, with 0.11 FTE.
• Cameron Downs State School: A small primary school around 90 km north of Julia Creek, serving remote pastoral areas, with 0.05 FTE.

Key Responsibilities

• Champion inclusive education by managing high-quality support, providing guidance and specialized programs to improve learning outcomes for students with disabilities and diverse learning requirements.
• Enhance staff skills through expert advice, coaching, and professional development focusing on inclusive methodologies, reasonable adjustments, intervention techniques, and access to specialist resources.
• Oversee student support initiatives including targeted interventions, effective case management, and thorough planning for students needing substantial or extensive adjustments.
• Promote evidence-based practices by implementing and assessing school-wide systems for data gathering, reporting, and compliance with the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data (NCCD).
• Build partnerships with families, external agencies, and community organizations while effectively managing resources—human, financial, curricular, and physical—to meet strategic objectives.

Position Details & Contract

This role is a temporary full-time appointment lasting until the end of Term 4, 2026, with no extension exceeding 12 months.
