Role overview

The Head of Quality Assurance is a full-time position based in Auckland, New Zealand, with hybrid flexibility and the option to work partly from home. The role is responsible for setting and leading the overall quality direction across hardware, embedded software, and manufacturing operations so that the company’s platform and OEM solutions consistently meet demanding quality expectations. This position partners closely with engineering, manufacturing, and product teams to reduce defects, address root causes, and drive ongoing process improvements. It also includes mentoring quality staff, working with OEM partners on quality requirements, and helping ensure certification, regulatory, and lifecycle quality obligations are met.

Key responsibilities

• Shape and own the quality strategy, systems, and standards across hardware, software, and manufacturing workflows.
• Build, maintain, and improve quality management frameworks and supporting documentation.
• Oversee quality control programs to monitor product output and confirm compliance with required standards.
• Plan and manage quality audits, identify gaps, and drive corrective and preventive actions.
• Create metrics, reporting tools, and dashboards to track product quality, compliance, and performance trends.
• Work cross-functionally with engineering, manufacturing, and product teams to prevent issues and resolve root causes.
• Support certification, regulatory compliance, and lifecycle quality requirements for OEM products.
• Guide, mentor, and develop members of the quality team.
• Collaborate with OEM partners to align on quality expectations and delivery standards.
• Use data analysis to identify trends, improve processes, and support decision-making.

Requirements

• Strong background in quality assurance and quality management, with the ability to design and govern effective quality systems.
• Hands-on quality control experience, including product validation, production monitoring, and standards enforcement for hardware or embedded solutions.
• Experience with quality audits, compliance reviews, and corrective/preventive action processes.
• Advanced analytical ability to interpret quality data, spot patterns, and carry out root cause analysis.
• Extensive leadership experience in hardware, embedded systems, or electronics manufacturing environments.
• Solid working knowledge of ISO standards, risk management practices, and continuous improvement methods such as Six Sigma or Lean.
• Proven ability to lead cross-functional work, influence stakeholders, and build capable quality teams.
• Clear communication and strong documentation skills for work in a global, multicultural OEM setting.
• Bachelor’s degree or higher in engineering, quality management, or a related technical field.
