Job description
Role overview
This leadership position is responsible for directing the organization’s project delivery capability and guiding a team of Project Managers across client-facing technology, digital transformation, systems integration, and implementation work. The role calls for deep experience in a vendor, systems integrator, IT services, or consulting environment, with a strong record of delivering within agreed scope, schedules, budgets, quality standards, and client acceptance requirements. It also requires regular, clear reporting to the CEO and senior leadership on project performance, risks, escalations, staffing constraints, client concerns, and corrective actions.
Project management leadership
- Lead, coach, and oversee a team of Project Managers handling multiple customer-facing assignments.
- Allocate Project Managers to engagements based on complexity, priority, client needs, and available capacity.
- Monitor Project Managers to ensure control over scope, schedule, budget, risks, issues, resources, stakeholders, and project records.
- Step in on critical assignments experiencing delays, delivery problems, resource clashes, or client escalations.
- Maintain consistent project management methods across all live projects.
Delivery oversight
- Direct the execution of technology, software, infrastructure, cloud, data, AI, ERP, CRM, systems integration, and digital transformation initiatives.
- Make sure every project has defined plans, milestones, deliverables, acceptance criteria, resource plans, RAID logs, and reporting routines.
- Track project health and ensure corrective measures are implemented for delayed, high-risk, or underperforming work.
- Confirm delivery remains aligned with signed contracts, approved scope, timelines, budgets, and quality expectations.
Executive reporting
- Review project reporting and ensure updates are accurate, realistic, and timely.
- Consolidate progress updates for the CEO and senior management.
- Bring forward key risks, delays, client escalations, resource concerns, financial impact, and leadership decisions needed.
- Keep senior stakeholders informed on progress, schedule adherence, budget position, scope control, quality, and client satisfaction.
Client and stakeholder management
- Serve as a senior escalation contact for client delivery concerns, project risks, delays, and scope-related issues.
- Support Project Managers in client communication, steering committee discussions, executive reviews, and escalation handling.
- Ensure client expectations stay aligned with delivery commitments, scope boundaries, dependencies, timelines, and change requests.
Scope, risk, and change control
- Keep strict oversight on scope to avoid uncontrolled scope creep.
- Manage risks, issues, assumptions, dependencies, and mitigation actions across projects.
- Assess change requests that affect scope, timelines, cost, resources, or deliverables.
- Work with commercial, account management, legal, procurement, technical, and delivery teams when changes have contractual or financial implications.
- Ensure acceptance, sign-off, and closure documentation is completed properly.
Resource and delivery coordination
- Coordinate with delivery managers, technical leads, department heads, vendors, and subcontractors to meet project staffing needs.
- Track allocation, utilization, capacity limitations, and competing priorities across projects.
- Resolve conflicts where multiple projects need the same people or delivery teams.
Delivery quality and improvement
- Ensure deliverables meet agreed quality standards, customer requirements, and acceptance criteria.
- Promote delivery discipline, accountability, documentation quality, communication standards, and sound risk management.
- Document lessons learned and push practical improvements in how projects are delivered.
Experience and background
The role calls for 10–15 years of experience in project management, program delivery, or technology implementation, including 3–5 years leading Project Managers. Strong background in a technology vendor, systems integrator, IT services provider, software vendor, or consulting/professional services company is required. Candidates should have a proven history of managing multiple client-facing projects delivered under contractual scope, timelines, budgets, and acceptance requirements, along with strong experience in client escalations, scope control, delivery risk management, executive reporting, resource management, and change control.
Experience working with cross-functional teams is important, including Project Managers, business analysts, developers, QA, solution architects, infrastructure teams, vendors, subcontractors, and support teams. A solid command of project controls, reporting, risk management, change management, and delivery governance is expected. Strong leadership, communication, stakeholder management, negotiation, problem-solving, and escalation handling skills are essential. Professional certifications such as PMP, PRINCE2, Agile, Scrum, or equivalent are preferred.
