About the Role

We are partnering with a Canadian-based company seeking a Head of Product Design to lead and innovate within an AI-centric user experience environment. This leadership role merges strategic oversight with hands-on involvement to elevate design craftsmanship and build a top-tier team. The role entails guiding designers to develop cutting-edge product interactions where AI agents assist users in resolving complex challenges.

Key Responsibilities

• Create and implement best practices tailored for an AI native product design team, fostering collaboration with AI throughout the design cycle.
• Lead, mentor, and expand the product design team by recruiting talented designers, enhancing skills, and fostering a culture of high performance.
• Prioritize design initiatives across several product areas, making strategic resource choices to focus on maximum impact opportunities.
• Remain actively involved in design tasks including prototypes, workflow optimizations, critiques, and product decision-making rather than solely managing.
• Innovate new interaction models involving AI agents performing significant tasks on behalf of users.
• Collaborate intimately with cross-functional teams—Product, Engineering, Marketing, Sales, and Customer success—to align design with strategic objectives.
• Advocate for exceptional design quality through thought leadership, industry participation, and clear articulation of design principles.
• Leverage AI tools strategically within the design workflow to expedite prototyping, exploration, feedback, and production phases.
• Develop scalable methodologies to enhance collaboration, speed, and uniformity across the product organization.
• Ensure ongoing elevation of the design team’s standards through continuous feedback, experimentation, and improvement initiatives.

Qualifications

• Over seven years experience in product design with a minimum of three years in managing design teams.
• Demonstrated success in building or significantly expanding a product design organization in a B2B SaaS or tech setting.
• Strong hands-on design skills enabling direct contributions to prototypes, user flows, and strategic product decisions.
• Experience designing AI-enabled, automated, or intelligent support systems within user workflows.
• Proven capability in recruiting, developing, and retaining top-performing design talent.
• Deep expertise in visual design, interaction design, systems thinking, and product strategy formulation.
• Experience managing design resource allocation, prioritizing tasks, and balancing competing needs effectively.
• Proficient with AI tools enhancing design workflow—facilitating prototyping, critique, research, and speeding production.
• Ability to clearly communicate complex design ideas and influence diverse stakeholders from technical and business backgrounds.
• Comfortable operating in dynamic, fast-changing environments requiring high ownership and adaptability.
• Excellent communication, strategic thinking, and team motivation skills to foster shared vision.
• Experience or strong interest in agent-based workflows and emerging AI-powered product interaction models is highly desirable.
