About OnBuy

OnBuy is an online marketplace committed to becoming the premier choice for every customer everywhere. Recently recognized as one of the UK's fastest-growing tech companies by the Sunday Times 100 Tech list, OnBuy remains driven by a clear mission and understands the large efforts needed to achieve success.

Working Environment

The team at OnBuy thrives in a fast-paced setting where initiative and ownership are key. You will be expected to embrace responsibilities fully and contribute actively to the company’s growth, maintaining focus and prioritization despite abundant opportunities, while adapting to a continuously evolving environment. At OnBuy, individuals are valued and have the chance to influence positive change and develop professionally as part of a close-knit team.

Role Overview

We are seeking a Head of Performance Marketing to lead and expand OnBuy's performance marketing efforts. This role holds responsibility for driving GMV growth with target profitability across a portfolio exceeding £200 million, leveraging segmentation, system optimization, data-driven activation, and methodical experimentation. This position is highly focused on trading and systems rather than brand marketing, with the aim of establishing a scalable growth engine.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Take full ownership of performance marketing channels including Google Shopping, Bing, Affiliates (including CSS), CRM, and specific paid social platforms.
  • Manage and evolve Google and Bing Shopping solutions with a focus on governance and performance.
  • Control channel mix, allocate budgets effectively, and maintain guardrails on contribution.
  • Implement and operationalize propensity model activation for predictive signal testing and utilization.
  • Ensure accurate measurement through incrementality, halo effect, marketing mix modeling, and attribution analysis.
  • Develop vendor and tooling strategies, evaluating platforms against internal systems through controlled testing.
  • Provide weekly reports on GMV, contribution, and marketing spend across all markets.
  • Lead and develop the performance marketing team structure and hiring efforts.

Detailed Responsibilities

  1. Commercial & Strategic Leadership: Drive GMV and target contribution growth across channels and markets; define channel mix, investment limits, pacing, and scaling plans; collaborate with Finance for accurate spend and revenue forecasting.
  2. Segmentation & Activation: Establish segmentation frameworks across departments, margin tiers, seller IDs, and performance levels; ensure segments are tested and activated in other channels; convert propensity and lifetime value models into actionable activations.
  3. Channel Strategy: Manage segmentation, waste control, and reporting for shopping channels; direct affiliate partnerships and contribution control; lead CRM lifecycle and retention strategies; implement structured testing and scaling in paid social.
  4. Measurement & Experimentation: Oversee incrementality testing and attribution efforts; evaluate and decide on new growth channels; report monthly on marketing performance insights.
  5. Operating Model: Facilitate weekly growth forums to drive continuous week-over-week growth; set stop-loss rules, guardrails, and monitoring alerts.
  6. Team Leadership: Guide senior managers in shopping, affiliates, and CRM; build a lean, automation-driven marketing team.

Role Clarifications

  • This is explicitly not a brand marketing or above-the-line (ATL) marketing position.
  • The role involves active ownership beyond agency management alone.
  • Focuses on systems building, growth driving, and delivering clear, measurable results.

Candidate Requirements

  • Proven senior leadership experience in performance marketing within ecommerce or marketplace businesses.
  • Extensive hands-on knowledge of Google Shopping and managing large catalog activations.
  • Experience handling large-scale SKU environments effectively.
  • Strong grasp of incrementality testing, attribution models, and experimental design.
  • In-depth understanding of customer segmentation and incrementality concepts.
  • Proven collaboration with data science and engineering teams.
  • Commercially focused and adept at data-driven decision making.
  • Experience working in UK and European markets; US market experience is a plus.
  • Able to operate at both strategic and hands-on levels in dynamic environments.
  • Track record of managing and growing a lean performance marketing team.

Compensation and Benefits

The role offers a salary range of £110,000 to £130,000 plus significant equity, contingent on experience.

  • Equity ownership providing a stake in the company’s growth.
  • 25 days of annual leave plus bank holidays.
  • One additional day off to celebrate your birthday.
  • Access to an Employee Assistance Programme.
  • Perks platform offering various benefits.
  • Opportunities for professional growth and career advancement.

Additional Information

This role supports remote work within the UK with options for hybrid arrangements near Manchester or Bournemouth offices.
