Job description
Role overview
HateAid is looking for an experienced leader to take responsibility for People & Management in a fast-moving environment. The role is aimed at someone who can keep administration running smoothly, strengthen the people function, and help anchor a sustainable organisational culture. A background in HR, administration, and ideally the non-profit sector is highly valuable.
The position sits at the intersection of organisational development, human resources, leadership, and office management, with a strong focus on process improvement, team health, and long-term structure.
Key responsibilities
- Lead six permanent team members across organisational development, HR, management, and office administration, both professionally and disciplinarily.
- Create a productive, people-focused working environment and improve collaboration within the team and across departments.
- Support self-organised work, conduct feedback and development discussions, initiate team-building measures, and help resolve tensions within the team.
- Take ownership of budget and resource planning for the area and align the work with the organisation’s wider strategy and goals.
- Work closely with the management team and the other five team leads to support organisation-wide decision-making and translate organisational objectives into team priorities.
- Guide the team member responsible for organisational development and, in coordination with management, oversee related development measures.
- Lead strategic offsite/planning sessions and support management in working with the other team leads.
- Coordinate corporate and legal entity matters, including maintaining the company records and planning and running shareholder or company meetings.
- Act as a point of contact for administrative matters and represent management in discussions with external parties such as landlords or service providers.
- Ensure compliance with legal occupational health and safety requirements, including coordination with the responsible safety officer.
- Manage personnel processes and drive the implementation and continuous improvement of internal policies and guidelines.
- Organise two cross-organisational team events.
What we’re looking for
- A completed university degree in areas such as human resources, business administration, or political science is welcome, but personality and relevant professional experience matter more than formal qualifications.
- You live in Berlin and your usual place of residence is in Berlin.
- You speak and write German fluently and can hold conversations in English.
- You have experience in the non-profit sector and understand the associated requirements and particularities.
- You bring strong leadership skills, experience in managing people, strategic thinking, efficient planning, and the ability to implement measures in a structured way.
- You are comfortable working in a dynamic environment and using a range of digital tools for organisation and communication.
- You are confident using MS Office.
- You are politically engaged and want to stand up against digital violence.
- You value diversity and are willing to continue learning, broaden your perspective, and grow with the organisation.
Benefits and working conditions
- Fixed-term contract for 2 years with 40 hours per week.
- A meaningful role at the intersection of social debate, digital policy, and law.
- Access to workshops and training, both individually and as a team.
- Choice of several benefits, including an Urban Sports membership and an employee benefits platform.
- Company pension scheme with a 30% enhanced employer contribution.
- Individual supervision and prevention-oriented psychological support.
- Compensatory time off for every overtime hour worked.
- 30 days of annual leave based on a 5-day work week.
- Paid leave on 24 December and 31 December.
- Remote work within Germany.
- Work abroad in the EU, EEA, or Switzerland by prior agreement.
- The role can be carried out mostly remotely, with occasional presence required at the modern Berlin office.
Application process
The application deadline is 19 July 2026, though the deadline may be shortened at any time without notice.
Interviews are held on a rolling basis.
Applicants are asked to submit a strong CV without a photo and relevant certificates. In addition, candidates should briefly explain what role they believe the People & Management team should play within the organisation, which areas are their strengths, and where they would like support.
About the organisation
HateAid is a non-profit organisation that has been advocating for human rights in digital spaces since 2018. It supports people affected by online abuse who themselves do not spread digital violence. In selected cases, it also helps them enforce their legal rights.
The organisation sees digital violence as a serious threat to democracy and works to improve protection for affected people through legal reform, policy engagement, and public advocacy. Its work includes dialogue with politicians, law enforcement, and platform operators, as well as publishing position papers, statements, campaigns, actions, and media work.
Values and culture
HateAid emphasises diversity and is continuously working to become a safer place for everyone. Candidates who share this commitment and want to help the organisation learn, reflect, and improve are especially encouraged to apply.
If someone decided not to apply for reasons unrelated to expertise or content, the organisation invites feedback by email on what could be done better.
