About the Role and Company
Opel Mobile, an Australian-designed brand specializing in accessible and straightforward mobile phones and consumer electronics, is rapidly expanding across five international markets including Australia, New Zealand, the UK, Ireland, and the South Pacific. Their product range includes smartphones, big-button and flip phones, rugged handsets, 4G home phones, and tablets, catered especially to seniors, children, and individuals with sensory impairments. The company is partnered with major retailers and carriers like JB Hi-Fi and Harvey Norman.
Role Overview
We are seeking a Head of Operations to lead and develop our entire operations infrastructure across multiple territories. This highly strategic position involves overseeing supply chain logistics, inventory management, freight operations, and coordinating with 3PL and manufacturing factories internationally. Located in Brookvale, NSW, this role demands building and managing operational systems that align with commercial sales efforts across all active markets.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary contact for international manufacturers, primarily in Shenzhen, China, handling order placement, production scheduling, and lead times for components and hardware.
- Collaborate with the global sales team to project inventory requirements over a 12-month horizon to maintain optimal stock levels.
- Manage logistics and freight forwarding partnerships to ensure efficient and cost-effective international shipping, and oversee 3PL and distribution partners to meet strict delivery and service-level agreements.
- Lead cross-functional coordination among business departments and regions, including direct supervision of the Product Manager and Product Engineer to align technical specifications and quality assurance with production timelines.
- Partner with bookkeeping and finance teams to monitor landed costs, operational inventory valuation, and maintain transparent financial reporting across all regions.
Success Metrics
- Ensuring flagship product availability with minimal excess inventory of slow-moving items.
- Timely and complete fulfillment by contract manufacturers to support scheduled launches and replenishments.
- Expedited and reliable retail order dispatch via 3PL networks, targeting next-day shipping.
- Consistent product quality demonstrated by low return and defect rates in wholesale channels.
Candidate Profile and Experience Requirements
- 8 to 12+ years of experience managing multi-territory distribution, preferably within mobile phones, tablets, consumer electronics components, or FMCG sectors.
- Proven expertise working with international freight forwarders, regional 3PL providers, and overseas manufacturing factories, adept in navigating global communication challenges and shipping complexities.
- Advanced skills with Excel and strong familiarity with inventory management software to execute detailed operational forecasting.
- Hands-on experience with AI tools to enhance workflows, automate routine reports, and improve organizational efficiency is highly regarded.
Employment Terms and Perks
- Annual salary upwards of $150,000 plus superannuation and performance bonuses.
- Hybrid working arrangement with a 4.5-day work week including half-day Fridays.
