Head of Operational Management: Undergraduate Education

Role overview

Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust is looking for a highly capable and experienced manager to take senior operational responsibility for undergraduate medical education across the organisation. This position plays a key role in making sure education programmes are delivered effectively, governed well, and continuously improved in line with GMC, NHS England, and Imperial School of Medicine expectations.

The post holder will provide day-to-day operational leadership across the undergraduate education function, with accountability for performance, quality assurance, data oversight, student experience tracking, financial control, and programme delivery. The role also supports the Trust’s planned growth in undergraduate medical placement activity.

In addition, the successful candidate will lead the medical education team, manage a multi-professional group directly, and provide senior oversight to a cohort of education fellows.

Key responsibilities

The role involves senior-level operational leadership, partnership working, governance oversight, and financial stewardship for undergraduate medical education activity. It requires someone who can work across clinical, academic, and external stakeholder groups while keeping delivery aligned to Trust priorities and service needs.

Governance and collaboration

You will work closely with Associate Medical Directors, Directors of Medical Education/Clinical Studies, and academic partners to maintain strong training environments and ensure that governance arrangements support quality improvement and compliance. You will also represent the Trust in senior forums across North West London and the Acute Provider Collaborative, helping to resolve operational issues and shape priorities.

Team leadership and supervision

The post includes line management of a multi-professional team and senior oversight of education fellows. You will help shape structured supervision and appraisal arrangements for the fellow cohort, working with the DCS and Medical Lead so their roles support both Trust needs and programme objectives.

Financial responsibility

You will be accountable for the financial management of undergraduate medical education activity, including budget monitoring and tariff income oversight.
