Job description

Position Overview

The Head of Marine will spearhead all marine safety, assurance, quality, and compliance efforts across various offshore projects, serving as the primary marine expert. This role ensures that marine operations are conducted safely, efficiently, and in alignment with company protocols, international maritime regulations, and industry standards.

Primary Duties

  • Oversee marine assurance, safety, quality, and compliance across several offshore marine spreads.
  • Conduct assessments to determine vessel suitability, carry out OVID inspections, manage dynamic positioning (DP) assurance activities, marine audits, and coordinate Marine Warranty Survey (MWS) interactions.
  • Provide support for offshore construction, installation, transportation and installation (T&I), heavy lifting, pipelaying, cable laying, diving, and marine vessel functions.
  • Collaborate closely with project teams, EPC contractors, vessel owners, classification societies, regulators, and marine contractors to uphold compliance and operational excellence.
  • Lead investigations of marine incidents, perform root cause analyses, promote lessons learned initiatives, and drive continuous improvement efforts.
  • Assess and approve marine procedures, risk assessments, and technical documents associated with offshore marine operations.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Marine Studies, Science, or possession of a Master Mariner or Chief Engineer Certificate of Competency.
  • At least ten years of seagoing experience, including two or more years serving as Master Mariner or Chief Engineer.
  • Demonstrated experience managing offshore marine units that support construction and installation operations offshore.
  • Comprehensive expertise in marine assurance, compliance, OVID inspections, vessel suitability evaluations, DP assurance, and marine safety governance.
  • In-depth understanding of dynamic positioning operations, failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA) reviews, annual DP trials, accredited standards such as ASOG and CAMO, and offshore marine risk management practices.
  • Strong knowledge of international maritime conventions and regulations such as IMO, SOLAS, MARPOL, ISM Code, flag state requirements, and classification society standards.

Preferred Background

  • Experience as a Marine Warranty Surveyor (MWS).
  • Background in marine consultancy roles.
  • Previous involvement in Middle East offshore projects.
  • Certifications or accreditations from IMCA.
  • Exposure to working with leading operators, EPC contractors, and offshore construction initiatives.
