Job description
Overview
Our client in the retail sector is seeking a Head of Loss Control to lead their loss prevention and risk management initiatives. This role entails overseeing comprehensive risk assessment, auditing, investigations, compliance controls, and insurance management to reduce and prevent losses.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify and mitigate risks across the company and individual departments, including evaluating internal control gaps, monitoring effectiveness, and managing potential overrides by management.
- Implement a systematic, risk-based internal audit strategy embedded within strategic, operational, and financial processes to identify and assess material risk areas.
- Plan and conduct annual audits and stocktakes focused on high-risk and high-value areas; generate reports covering compliance, financial, operational, and forensic audits.
- Lead investigations related to employee misconduct or criminal acts; work with judicial entities and allocate appropriate resources, including managing legal proceedings on behalf of the organization.
- Hold management accountable for losses, including theft, fraud, and damages; provide monthly assurance reports to the Loss Control Executive Committee demonstrating control effectiveness.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, industry standards, and internal policies.
- Manage insurance-related activities by promptly notifying insurers of insured losses, ensuring claims are processed for damaged or lost assets, facilitating insurance assessor site visits, and verifying adequate coverage of inventory and fixed assets.
Requirements
- Possess a degree in Forensics, Police Studies, or a closely related discipline.
- Hold a Certified Fraud Examiner certification or an equivalent qualification.
- Have at least five years of experience in loss prevention, security, or a related area, ideally within a retail environment.
- Demonstrate strong observational and analytical capabilities.
- Exhibit excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Be proficient in security systems and related software.
- Maintain professionalism and composure under pressure.
