Job description

About the role

4WD Supacentre is seeking a practical, technically strong IT delivery leader to guide the teams responsible for day-to-day improvements across its software environment. In this position, you will lead delivery for custom-built solutions that support more than 40 retail stores and 5 distribution centres, while also helping shape the engineering culture, execution rhythm, and delivery priorities across web, backend, and integration systems.

This is a hands-on leadership role within a close-knit technology group of around 15 specialists. The CIO will define the broader technology direction, while you will ensure initiatives are translated into delivered outcomes, remove blockers, and keep work moving across multiple streams.

The role is based at the Sydney Olympic Park office in New South Wales, with an onsite expectation and some hybrid flexibility.

Responsibilities

  • Guide, coach, and work directly with developers, testers, and integration specialists.
  • Own delivery across multiple small projects, enhancements, and integration workstreams from start to finish.
  • Keep business-as-usual incidents and operational issues under control while maintaining project momentum.
  • Run agile delivery activities including sprint planning, prioritisation, and roadmap follow-through.
  • Stay closely involved in architecture, code reviews, and complex technical troubleshooting.
  • Help build a strong culture focused on accountability, quality, and pace.
  • Partner with business stakeholders to turn operational needs into practical solutions.
  • Investigate recurring requests and issues, identify root causes, and reduce repeat work.
  • Continuously improve the organisation’s web, backend, integration, and internal systems landscape.
  • Take responsibility for weekly business value delivery.
  • Collaborate closely with the IT Infrastructure team and the Enterprise Architect.

Requirements

  • More than 10 years of experience in technology, including at least 5 recent years in a hands-on leadership or people management role.
  • Strong current development capability, with confidence writing and reviewing code and troubleshooting technical issues.
  • Experience delivering several projects or improvement streams at the same time in a fast-moving environment.
  • Background leading small to medium agile teams, ideally in the 10 to 20 person range.
  • Exposure to retail, e-commerce, supply chain, or warehouse systems is highly valued.
  • Working knowledge of AI platforms and AI tools, with comfort using AI in a practical way.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • A delivery-first mindset with sound commercial judgement.
  • Experience with retail or multi-site operational systems such as POS, ERP, WMS, and e-commerce.
  • Hands-on experience across modern development stacks, including web, backend, APIs, and integrations.
  • Good understanding of agile methods and tools such as Jira and Confluence.
  • Ability to improve engineering processes without creating unnecessary bureaucracy.
  • Australian working rights are required; visa sponsorship is not available.

Preferred experience

  • Exposure to AI or machine learning tools, automation, or similar initiatives.
  • Experience with retail technology platforms such as POS, ERP, WMS, or e-commerce systems.
  • Familiarity with cloud environments such as AWS or GCP, plus DevOps and CI/CD practices.
  • Previous work in multi-site retail, logistics, warehousing, or distribution environments.

Perks and benefits

  • Competitive pay package.
  • Employee discounts on the Adventure Kings product range.
  • Onsite work at Sydney Olympic Park with some hybrid flexibility.
  • Parking provided.
  • Opportunity to contribute in a fast-growing and evolving business.

Additional information

Only applicants with full, unrestricted Australian working rights will be considered. Visa sponsorship is not available. Recruitment agencies and third-party enquiries will not be accepted.
