Job description

About Fello

Fello is a profitable, venture capital-backed, rapidly expanding B2B SaaS company focused on creating an advanced agentic real estate platform. Our innovative platform merges data intelligence, marketing automation, and conversational AI to empower real estate teams to engage more effectively and grow faster. Central to our system is Felix, an AI teammate that automates follow-ups via calls, texts, and emails, with plans to expand its task handling.

Unlike traditional tools, Fello acts as an adaptive, real-time operational system that helps teams prioritize growth without guesswork.

Role Overview

This is a hands-on finance leadership position where you will fully manage the finance functions yourself. Responsibilities include overseeing monthly close processes, GAAP compliance, revenue recognition, tax duties, financial reporting, and maintaining audit readiness—with support from AI tools and a fractional CFO, but no direct team reporting to you.

The role is equally split between operational controller work and strategic finance engagement. The President currently handles financial strategy and seeks a capable partner to gradually assume more strategic responsibilities, which begins by ensuring flawless fundamental finance operations.

This position requires direct involvement in finance execution and is unsuitable for those preferring distance management. Ideal candidates have led finance or been the operational lead within a finance team and seek full ownership in a dynamic environment.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Manage end-to-end monthly, quarterly, and yearly closes including accruals, reconciliations, journal entries, and variance analysis with emphasis on speed and precision.
  • Ensure strict GAAP adherence and maintain continuous audit preparedness including liaison with external auditors.
  • Handle daily accounting tasks such as accounts payable and receivable, payroll coordination, expense controls through Ramp, and banking management.
  • Create and maintain automated interfaces among billing and accounting platforms (Stripe, Chargebee, QuickBooks) to minimize manual tasks and improve data accuracy.
  • Develop comprehensive accounting policies, technical and process documentation to guarantee audit and third-party diligence robustness.
  • Manage revenue recognition under ASC 606 for subscription, usage-based, and hybrid pricing models.
  • Maintain clear and defensible definitions of key SaaS metrics like ARR, NRR, GRR, and churn, reconciling data between billing, general ledger, and business intelligence reporting.
  • Compile monthly financial reports covering financial statements, SaaS metrics, variance, and departmental expenses.
  • Oversee all tax-related functions including sales tax compliance via Anrok, federal/state filings, and strategic tax planning.
  • Ensure conformity with banking, insurance, and regulatory standards while managing related documentation and reporting obligations.
  • Strengthen internal controls as the company scales to support operational integrity.
  • Build and sustain a well-organized, updated financial data room to support audits, board reporting, fundraising, and strategic assessments without disruption.
  • Optimize reporting workflows to ensure that board and investor materials are consistently ready and accurate.
  • Elevate the finance function from founder-level to institutional-grade through enhanced reporting quality, documentation, rigor, and financial discipline while maintaining agility.
  • Collaborate with the President and fractional CFO on budgeting, forecasting, scenario planning, and financial modeling for the board.
  • Deliver actionable financial analyses influencing hiring, pricing, customer acquisition costs, vendor agreements, and resource management.
  • Serve as a financial advisor to Sales, Marketing, Customer Success, and Operations leaders, fostering a culture of financial accountability.
  • Translate company performance into meaningful financial insights linking sales activity, customer trends, pricing strategies, and hiring decisions to financial impact.
  • Analyze and update customer cohort data thoroughly, identifying data anomalies and clarifying them or constructing insightful narratives.
  • Design and implement AI-powered automations to improve reconciliation, close processes, and reporting activities, effectively running a multi-person finance function via technology.
  • Work alongside the internal GTM AI team to develop and deploy AI-driven solutions tailored to finance workflow improvements.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Minimum 7 years of progressive experience in finance and accounting, with demonstrated full responsibility for monthly close processes at SaaS or technology firms.
  • Professional credentials such as CPA or equivalent practical expertise with GAAP accounting standards, including expert application of ASC 606.
  • Experience beyond controller-level tasks, including FP&A, board reporting, forecasting, or involvement in fundraising, audit, or M&A activities.
  • Familiarity with finance and accounting tools including QuickBooks, Stripe, Chargebee, Ramp, Anrok, and HubSpot or similar software platforms.
  • A proactive, hands-on finance practitioner with strong enthusiasm to lead and manage all finance aspects rather than simply reporting numbers.
  • Proven capability to excel in a fast-evolving, ambiguous, and high-responsibility work environment.
  • Advanced AI proficiency is mandatory: candidates must have built scalable AI-powered financial workflows and automation, transcending basic prompt usage. Collaboration with AI development teams is integral.

What We Are Not Looking For

  • A CFO who delegates finance operations without direct involvement.
  • A bookkeeper without forecasting or executive partnership skills.
  • Finance specialists with limited ownership of the overall finance function.
  • Individuals dependent on large teams to generate leverage.
  • Strategists who do not participate in hands-on financial production.

Success Indicators

  • Consistent, accurate, and GAAP-compliant monthly close processes without last-minute efforts.
  • Clear, robust revenue recognition and SaaS metrics reconciled across systems.
  • Maintained financial data room that can promptly respond to audits or diligence without issues.
  • Leadership has full trust in financial figures and gains actionable insights beyond standard reports.
  • Within 6 to 12 months, strategic responsibilities increase significantly due to reliable operational controls.
  • Financial forecasts improve progressively through measured, scrutinized, and updated assumptions.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Competitive salary and benefits package.
  • Fully remote working arrangement with flexible hours to support work-life integration.
  • Opportunities for career progression and professional skill growth.
  • Comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance coverage.
  • Generous paid time off and holidays for rest and rejuvenation.
  • Team culture emphasizing innovation and cooperative success.
  • Equity participation opportunities to share in the company's success.
  • Engagement with cutting-edge AI and technological projects.
