Role overview

This is a fixed-term, part-time, fully remote leadership role covering parental leave for the Head of Faculty in Creative Industries. The position is based anywhere in New Zealand and reports to the Head of Programme Development. It is a hands-on academic leadership role leading two Faculty Associate Leaders and supporting the faculty through the implementation of newly approved programmes, with a focus on delivery readiness for 2027.

The role is for 20 hours per week, equivalent to 0.8 FTE. It begins on 3 August 2026 and runs until 18 December 2026. Both the start date and the end date can be discussed for the right person. Time has been built in before and after the leave period to allow for a smooth handover.

Key responsibilities

• Provide daily academic and operational direction to the Creative Industries faculty team.
• Support the rollout of newly approved programmes.
• Take ownership of programme and content development while also contributing directly to learning materials, assessments, and teaching resources.
• Ensure all programmes meet NZQA requirements, internal policies, and relevant accreditation and quality expectations.
• Oversee delivery readiness by coordinating centralised resources, assessment development, LMS setup in partnership with Learning Design, moderation activity, tutor support, and preparation across campuses and delivery formats.
• Assist teaching teams with implementation, readiness activities, and ongoing delivery support.
• Lead programme reviews, evaluation, moderation, continuous improvement, and the follow-through on recommendations and action plans.
• Develop and sustain strong internal and external stakeholder relationships and contribute to programme quality, innovation, and strategic direction.
• Promote a collaborative, industry-informed, learner-centred teaching culture that reflects Māori and Pasifika advancement principles in curriculum design and delivery.

Candidate profile

• Master’s qualification in a relevant creative industries field, or an equivalent tertiary qualification combined with significant professional experience.
• Strong subject expertise in Design and/or Animation.
• Proven experience leading academic teams, programmes, or curriculum initiatives in a tertiary education setting.
• Ability in curriculum design, learning design, and development of high-quality teaching and learning resources.
• Experience with programme accreditation, external academic review processes, and academic quality assurance.
• A collaborative leadership style that combines clear direction with a practical, hands-on approach.
• Excellent communication, organisation, stakeholder engagement, and relationship management skills.
