Job description
Role overview
This role is an opportunity to take a senior leadership position on a major hospital development that is part of the NHS New Hospital Programme. The programme is a significant capital project valued at more than £1bn, and the successful candidate will guide the commercial and construction aspects from early design and planning through to handover.
The organisation is looking for a commercially strong, delivery-oriented leader who can influence outcomes, negotiate effectively, and build credible working relationships across a complex stakeholder landscape. The post sits within a politically sensitive and changing environment, so the ability to work with ambiguity while keeping delivery on track is essential.
Working alongside the national New Hospital Programme team and the H2.0 Alliance framework, the postholder will help ensure the project is delivered safely, efficiently, and in a way that creates lasting public value. This position offers the chance to help bring a new world-class healthcare facility to life for future generations.
Key duties
- Provide leadership to all commercial, contractual, procurement, and construction-related activity for the New Hospital Programme, reporting to the Programme Director.
- Design and put into practice strong commercial and delivery approaches covering cost control, procurement, contract administration, and construction management.
- Lead the procurement and oversight of professional advisers and construction partners, working closely with the national programme team and the H2.0 Alliance.
- Build effective relationships with internal teams, finance colleagues, clinical leaders, external advisers, and delivery partners so the programme achieves value for money, quality, and long-term sustainability.
- Contribute to Trust-wide capital, commercial, and procurement planning, while also helping strengthen in-house capability for major project delivery.
