Job description
About the role
Cardiff Metropolitan University is looking for a Head of Campus Operations to help shape how its campuses run every day. The role is central to making sure estates services are delivered reliably and consistently across the university estate, with a strong focus on safety, service quality and the experience of students, staff and visitors.
The university is committed to creating campus environments where people can thrive, supporting innovative teaching, impactful research and an outstanding student experience. It is also ranked first in Wales in the People and Planet University League and has invested significantly in decarbonisation to build smarter, more sustainable spaces for its community.
You will play an important part in supporting well-managed campus environments by overseeing cleaning, grounds and waste management services, helping the university deliver its 2030 Strategy and net zero commitments.
Key duties
- Help make sure campus space is used effectively through digital estates technology.
- Work closely with colleagues and contractors to coordinate services safely and smoothly across a live campus setting.
- Support effective contract and performance management so teams can deliver dependable, consistent services.
- Take a proactive approach to safety, compliance and risk management, including statutory requirements.
What you will bring
You should have experience managing operational resources in a customer-focused environment, along with strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills to build trusted working relationships. Confidence in using digital systems and data to support planning and decision-making is also important, as is the ability to help create high-quality environments for the university community.
- Experience managing contracts and working with suppliers to deliver safe, effective services.
- Strong understanding of, and practical experience in, health and safety management within an operational estate.
- Good organisational and project management skills, with the ability to juggle several priorities at once.
- Administrative experience and working knowledge of computer-based management systems, including CAFM for asset management, work planning and task assignment.
Why join Cardiff Metropolitan University?
The university describes itself as values-led, with innovation, creativity, trust and inclusion shaping its culture. It offers a supportive and collaborative environment where you are encouraged to develop your skills, contribute ideas and make a real difference.
Benefits
- 35 days of annual leave, plus 12 bank holiday/concessionary days, pro rata for part-time staff.
- Membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme with generous monthly contributions.
- Excellent family-friendly policies.
- Opportunities to learn and develop skills, with access to library facilities and digital services.
- Good sport and fitness facilities with subsidised membership.
- Free access for families to the university’s independent specialist wellbeing support provider, Health Assured.
