Overview
Join Maple Leaf Foods Inc in New Hamburg, Ontario (just 15 minutes from Kitchener) as a full-time Hatchery Worker responsible for sanitation. The role supports poultry health and welfare by ensuring thorough cleaning and maintaining biosecurity standards aligned with CFIA Hatchery Preventative Control Plan and NFACC Code of Practice. Key Duties
- Thoroughly clean and sanitize the Hatcher Room, including all machines, tops, and overhead areas daily before egg transfer by following a detailed seven-step sanitation process.
- Maintain air quality by cleaning and sanitizing the Hatcher Exhaust Tunnel during the hatching process.
- Properly mix, dispense, and apply cleaning and disinfecting chemicals using recommended concentrations safely.
- Inspect for live animals before sanitation and perform humane euthanasia of embryos or chicks when needed.
- Support the receiving of imported chicks by ensuring post-grade sanitation procedures are performed to prevent contamination by Salmonella and other pathogens.
- Assist in handling and moving stacks of Hatcher Baskets in preparation for transfer processes.
- Prepare for and conduct pre-operational checks, taking corrective measures as required.
- Strictly follow Maple Leaf Foods AgOps Biosecurity Policy and Personal Hygiene Program during all tasks.
Work Schedule
Work morning shifts starting at 7 AM on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday.
Compensation
Hourly pay ranges between $21.40 and $22.40 depending on progression.
Qualifications
- Flexible availability to work until all duties are satisfactorily completed.
- Physical ability to stand for extended periods, recurrently lift loads up to 40 lbs, and work safely at heights.
- Comfort with working under conditions involving strong odors, noise, damp surfaces, and humidity.
- Competency in following standard operating procedures, sanitation routines, and health and safety protocols.
- Compliance with Preventive Control Plans (PCP), Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS), and Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) standards.
- No specific formal education required; comprehensive on-the-job training offered.
