This permanent contract role supports the Property, Assets & Facilities Management team by ensuring the upkeep of station assets and buildings, along with carrying out planned and reactive non-technical maintenance duties across four depots. The primary goal is to maintain stations in a safe, clean, and fully functional condition meeting Service Quality Regime (SQR) standards for both passengers and staff.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct routine maintenance tasks such as minor repairs, painting, carpentry, plumbing, and safety inspections.
  • Assist depot technical staff on two-person assignments like light column lowering.
  • Regularly inspect facilities, identify issues like damaged fixtures, faulty doors, lighting failures, vandalism, and SQR breaches, and either resolve or report them promptly.
  • Maintain and repair station furniture, signage, platforms, and public spaces.
  • Respond quickly to maintenance requests and emergency situations.
  • Support installation of new infrastructure or equipment when necessary.
  • Adhere strictly to health and safety policies, ensuring safe execution of all tasks.
  • Coordinate effectively with station management, contractors, and suppliers.
  • Keep detailed maintenance records using the Chiltern Concerto system.
  • Perform seasonal duties such as snow clearing, drainage cleaning, leaf removal, and vegetation management.

Candidate Profile

  • Proven experience as a handyman or maintenance operative, ideally within public or transport sectors.
  • Basic proficiency in carpentry, plumbing, painting, and minor electrical repairs.
  • Solid understanding of railway-related health and safety regulations.
  • Capability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • Effective communication skills combined with a customer-oriented approach.
  • Physical fitness to work outdoors under variable weather conditions.
  • Availability to work flexible shifts including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and public holidays.
  • Possession of a valid full UK driving licence is mandatory.

Additional Desirable Skills

  • Experience working in railway or transportation infrastructure environments.
  • Basic first aid certification.
