Job description

About MAX

MAX is building mobility solutions that support safer, more affordable, more accessible, and more sustainable transport across Africa and other emerging markets. The company combines advanced technology, infrastructure, and financial innovation to serve commercial drivers and transport operators through vehicle subscriptions, insurance, digital wallets, e-hailing services, and clean-energy options.

Since its launch, MAX has expanded from 200 drivers in 2015 to more than 55,000 riders, known internally as Champions, across Nigeria, Ghana, and Cameroon, with plans to continue expanding across Africa.

Vision, Mission, and Core Values

MAX aims to help shape Africa’s future movement by using technology, financial inclusion, and clean energy to improve mobility. Its culture is guided by five core values: transparency, integrity, initiative, partnership, and safety.

  • Transparency: keeping stakeholders informed and included.
  • Integrity: acting consistently and honoring commitments.
  • Initiative: encouraging bold ideas and innovation.
  • Partnership: working collaboratively and openly.
  • Safety: ensuring every ride is reliable, secure, and comfortable.

Impact and Growth

Through its rent-to-own model, MAX has helped over 55,000 riders access income-generating assets such as two-wheelers and three-wheelers. To help riders start operating immediately, the company also created MAX Advantage, which includes vehicle licensing and insurance, health coverage, maintenance support, and emergency services.

After beginning with low-emission vehicles, MAX has now moved fully into electric vehicles and is working toward deploying over 10,000 EVs across Nigeria and Ghana by 2025. It is also building solar-powered battery swap stations in Nigeria so riders can exchange batteries in under 3 minutes.

MAX has raised more than $70M from strategic and financial investors, including Lightrock, Global Ventures, Yamaha, Mastercard, Shell Foundation, Novastar Ventures, Goodwell Investments, Breakthrough Energy Ventures, Techstars, and DLM Capital. In December 2021, the company completed the first close of its $31M Series B and is now pursuing a new growth phase supported by a $100M+ raise over the next 12 months.
