Role overview

This opportunity sits within a growing Ground and Water team focused on contaminated land and geo-environmental work. The team supports a healthy pipeline of confirmed projects through 2025 and is looking for Contaminated Land / Geo-environmental Consultants and Assistant Consultants. The role is centred on contaminated land assessment and remediation, with strong scope for career progression through training and mentoring.

What you will do

• Carry out site-based work, including oversight and coordination of site investigations.
• Perform field tasks such as soil logging, environmental sampling, and monitoring of ground gas.
• Gather, organise, examine, and interpret project data.
• Assist in planning site investigation activities and related design work.
• Prepare technical documentation, including desk studies, site investigation outputs, remediation studies, and verification reports.
• Ensure all deliverables follow internal procedures and meet high standards for safety, health, and environmental performance.
• Support Phase 1 desk study research and reporting.
• Contribute to Phase 2 site investigation work, including design, supervision, soil sampling, soil logging, subcontractor coordination, human health and water environment risk assessment, and reporting.
• Work in line with technical, engineering, and health and safety practices, with guidance and training where needed.
• Communicate effectively with clients, subcontractors, and other project team members.

Team and working environment

The land contamination team provides services to clients across the private and public sectors, including property, government agency, energy, industrial, and nuclear markets. The successful candidate will be supported in day-to-day project delivery and will work closely with team members, project managers, and project directors.

There are also internal networks for early career professionals, along with opportunities to build relationships across the wider business and take part in social activities.

Location and travel

The role is based in the North/North East of England, ideally from the Leeds office, with Newcastle as an alternative. Site attendance across the UK will be required when needed, although the work will primarily be in the North of England.

What you should bring

• Practical on-site experience in site investigation or similar field-based work.
• Experience preparing Phase 1 contaminated land or geo-environmental desk studies.
• Understanding of how to plan, design, and manage site investigation work.
• Hands-on experience with soil logging.
• Awareness of Construction Design and Management (CDM) Regulations as they relate to site investigations.
• Knowledge of the UK land contamination regime and the risk-based approach to assessing contamination.
• Ability to write clear, concise, and accurate reports.
• Experience handling data; GIS experience is an advantage.

Qualification

A relevant degree is expected, such as chemistry, biology, geology, engineering, or environmental science.
