We invite graduates holding a Bachelor of Health Science in Paramedicine to join our upcoming graduate training program commencing on 26 January 2027, available for placements in both Greater Wellington and the Wairarapa regions.

Wellington Free Ambulance stands as the sole emergency ambulance provider for Greater Wellington and Wairarapa, committed to delivering reliable, high-quality emergency and community health services. Our offerings include emergency ambulance response, scheduled patient transfer services, a 111 Clinical Communications Centre, and medical support at community events. Role Overview

As a Graduate Paramedic, you will provide exemplary patient care with efficiency, professionalism, and consistency throughout your duties.

The position begins with an in-depth induction featuring online modules, immersive one-week classroom sessions, and practical on-road training, designed to build confidence and familiarity with our clinical systems and equipment.

Upon completion, you will enter a structured 12-month Graduate Programme that includes mentorship from experienced preceptors, combining guided practice, formal learning, and reflective review to support your progression towards independent paramedic practice.

Within six months, support will be provided to achieve your Emergency Medical Technician Authority to Practice (EMT ATP), with the goal to advance to full Paramedic Authority to Practice within the following year.

Qualifications and Candidate Profile

• Completion or anticipated completion of a Paramedicine degree by the end of 2026.
• Possession of a full, clean driver's license held for at least two years.
• Demonstrated motivation to work with Wellington Free Ambulance.
• Experience in customer or patient service, engaging with diverse communities.
• Strong resilience and capacity to manage high-pressure or stressful scenarios.
• Excellent situational awareness, especially in safety-sensitive contexts.
• A proactive approach with openness to constructive feedback to enhance clinical skills.
• Effective communication skills to establish rapport with a broad range of individuals.
• Sound judgement and problem-solving abilities.

Recruitment Process

Assessment will include video interviews, psychometric testing, behavioral interviews, and a clinical evaluation. Successful candidates will proceed through reference and Ministry of Justice checks, followed by a mandatory pre-employment health assessment which includes drug and alcohol screening corresponding to five specified drug categories.

• This full-time role requires availability to start on 26 January 2027.
• Assessment dates are anticipated from 28 September to 5 October 2026; remote assessment options are provided for applicants outside the region.
• Due to the safety-sensitive nature of the role, a comprehensive pre-employment medical and drug screening is compulsory.
