About the Opportunity
The Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) invites dedicated graduates to join its impactful 12-month fixed-term Graduate Development Programme based in Wellington, New Zealand, running from February 2027 to January 2028. This full-time role provides an exceptional chance to gain comprehensive experience across vital sectors such as biosecurity, forestry, fisheries, food safety, response, regulation, and policy through two rotations of about six months each. MPI's overarching goal is to be globally recognized as the most trusted organization for high-value food and fibre products.

MPI operates over 50 national locations and 11 international sites, providing unique opportunities to contribute meaningfully, whether at an office, international airport, fishing vessel, or farm. Candidate Profile
Successful applicants should have graduated within the last two years with qualifications in fields like biological, environmental, or marine sciences, agriculture, forestry, policy, international relations, economics, data science, geography, or related areas. Eligibility requires either New Zealand work rights or the ability to obtain them, readiness to relocate to Wellington, and a passion or lived experience related to primary industries.
Applicants are expected to demonstrate analytical thinking, problem-solving skills, confident and clear communication, adaptability, commitment, teamwork, and some form of leadership or work experience (including volunteering, internships, research, or community involvement).
