Job description

About the opportunity

This is a chance to help shape a bank from the ground up at a time when the banking stack is being reinvented. Augustus is building a stablecoin-native clearing bank designed for always-on, machine-speed settlement, backed by experienced operators and prominent investors. The company is already regulated in Europe with Euro and stablecoin clearing in place, and is now growing its US team while continuing to expand in Europe.

What you will do

As a Graduate Engineer, you will take ownership of meaningful parts of the core banking platform from day one. The role is intentionally hands-on: you will work on production systems that support high-value financial movement at global scale, including APIs, transaction processing, and client integrations. You will be part of a small senior product engineering team building the Programmable Bank, with work spanning both traditional banking infrastructure and blockchain-based systems.

You will be expected to move quickly, write clear and reliable code, and help build systems that are simple, durable, and dependable. The environment is designed for rapid learning through real delivery, not through a structured training program.

Your first six months

  • Months 1-2: Get up to speed on the codebase, product, and domain, and begin shipping useful code within your first few weeks. You will start with a project of your own while pairing with senior engineers and still operating with a high degree of independence.

  • Months 3-4: Deliver your first major project end to end. By this stage, you should understand the domain well enough to ask strong questions, spot weak assumptions, and start forming opinions on technical direction, data modeling, edge cases, and trade-offs.

  • Months 5-6: Take on more difficult work independently and drive projects autonomously. You should be developing a view on how the core banking systems should evolve and actively contributing to that direction.

Who succeeds here

Augustus looks for people who enjoy tackling hard problems with a lot of ownership. The strongest fit tends to be someone who stays persistent when things break, holds themselves to a high standard, shapes unfamiliar problems without waiting for a playbook, and prefers building systems that reduce manual effort rather than adding more process or people.

Who this role suits

  • People who want their first role to have real impact, with production systems, actual users, and meaningful consequences.

  • Those who learn best by building alongside experienced engineers.

  • Self-starters who have already made things before being asked to.

  • Candidates who would rather own an entire problem than work within a narrow scope.

Who this role does not suit

  • People looking for a formal graduate programme with step-by-step support.

  • Candidates who need a fully defined assignment from day one.

  • People who prefer to work alone and ship without collaboration.

  • Those who rely on a large team to be effective.

  • Anyone uncomfortable working in a bank environment with strict regulatory oversight.

Hard requirements

  • A degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a closely related subject from a top university.

  • Strong programming foundations, along with proof that you have delivered real software.

  • Hands-on ability in TypeScript and Node.js, with an emphasis on straightforward, effective implementation.

  • Clear signs of initiative, such as side projects, open-source work, internships, or independent building.

  • You must already be based in Berlin or be willing to relocate; relocation support is provided.

Compensation and benefits

The salary range for this position is €75K to €90K. The company also offers relocation support, visa support, the latest Apple equipment including a MacBook and AirPods, lunch support, gym support, a central office location, four on-site/off-site team gatherings each year, and an annual learning and development budget. Employees are treated as shareholders, so this role includes real participation in the business. For the US team, the company provides Medical, Dental, and Vision insurance, along with a 401(k) retirement plan.

Equal opportunity statement

Augustus is committed to an inclusive workplace where people from all backgrounds can contribute and where different perspectives are respected. Applications are considered without discrimination based on race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, neurodiversity, disability, age, parental status, or veteran status.

Additional information

This position is based in Berlin and is a full-time onsite role. The company is building a banking platform for digital assets and AI, with an emphasis on precision, reliability, and operating at banking-grade regulatory standards.
