GPS Grade Checker/Laborer

Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced GPS Grade Checker/Laborer with 2 to 3 years in grade checking and proficiency with GPS and survey equipment. Candidates must pass pre-employment drug screening and be willing to work overtime as required. This role offers an hourly wage between $32 and $35, dependent on experience, along with a $120 per diem for qualifying candidates traveling over 90 miles. The work schedule typically exceeds 50 hours weekly, with an expected project duration of approximately one year.

Key Responsibilities

• Support skilled craft workers by assisting in their assigned tasks and occasionally taking on other craft duties as directed by supervisors.
• Apply basic math skills — addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division effectively during work activities.
• Identify and reduce waste related to waiting, rework, transportation, material handling, and time inefficiencies.
• Prioritize safety by consulting supervisors on any uncertainties regarding work procedures or safe practices.
• Acquire comprehensive understanding of work-related safety hazards and adhere to all safety protocols.
• Operate tools and equipment safely and effectively under guided supervision.
• Continuously seek opportunities to improve tasks, methods, and processes and remain open to learning from colleagues.
• Maintain positive and cooperative relationships with team members.
• Consistently deliver high-quality, safe, and productive work output.
• Provide timely feedback to ensure availability of necessary materials, tools, equipment, and information.

Qualifications and Experience

• Preferably completed NCCER Core Curriculum or possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
• A minimum of one year of experience for Level I; two years for Level II; and three or more years in industrial or commercial construction is preferred.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills are required.

Physical and Safety Requirements

• Must wear mandated personal protective equipment (PPE) such as steel-toed boots, gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, hard hat, and safety vest.
• Frequently reach above shoulder height and below the waist; occasional bending, kneeling, or stooping.
• Limited use of telephone, computer, or electronic devices for communication with clients and vendors.
• Able to move through confined, cluttered, and uneven work areas.
• Must comply with all established safety standards and procedures.
• Regularly use hands to handle objects and maintain balance on ladders, scaffolds, stairs, and frameworks.
• Occasionally lift, push, or pull up to 50 pounds.
• Capable of performing strenuous physical work for up to 12 hours per shift in varying temperature and outdoor conditions.

This position is designated as safety-sensitive, involving tasks that could impact the safety and health of the employee or others such as operating vehicles, machinery, handling hazardous or combustible materials, and power tools.
