Role Overview

The Government Contracting Assistance Specialist is a trusted resource for businesses exploring opportunities in federal, state, local, and tribal government procurement. Working through GSI’s APEX Accelerator program, this role provides hands-on technical support, training, and individualized advising to help businesses understand procurement rules and compete more effectively for contracts.

The position also involves building client relationships, leading workshops and outreach efforts, supporting registrations and certifications, and guiding businesses across the contracting process. In addition, this role contributes to broader economic development efforts by helping businesses expand into new markets and increase their participation in government contracting.

Location and Work Setup

This role is based in Spokane, WA and requires regular in-office presence. A hybrid schedule may be available, with up to two days per week working from home.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide individualized advice and technical help to businesses pursuing government contract opportunities.
  • Assist clients with SAM.gov registration and ongoing account maintenance.
  • Support businesses in securing and keeping required certifications, including small business and socioeconomic certifications.
  • Help clients understand procurement procedures across federal, state, local, and tribal jurisdictions.
  • Guide businesses in finding contract opportunities and interpreting solicitation requirements.
  • Keep client records and activity logs accurate and aligned with program standards.
  • Create and deliver workshops, presentations, and training sessions on government contracting topics.
  • Carry out outreach to businesses and community partners to raise awareness of APEX Accelerator services.
  • Represent the program at conferences, trade shows, and community events.
  • Develop and sustain relationships with agencies, business groups, and economic development partners.
  • Promote available services and resources to potential clients.
  • Follow APEX Accelerator compliance and reporting requirements.
  • Monitor client outcomes and program performance data.
  • Ensure files and records are complete, accurate, and ready for audit review.
  • Prepare reports and other documentation for funding partners and program leadership.
  • Participate in reviews, audits, and training activities as needed.
  • Work collaboratively with GSI staff and external partners to support organizational goals.
  • Contribute to a culture of accountability, strong service, and continuous improvement.
  • Take on special projects and additional assignments as needed.
  • Represent GSI and the APEX Accelerator program professionally at all times.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, public administration, communications, economics, or a related area.
  • At least 3 years of experience in business advising, economic development, workforce development, sales, customer service, procurement, government contracting, or a similar field.
  • Background in delivering presentations, workshops, or training is preferred.
  • Experience working with businesses, community organizations, or government agencies is preferred.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain APEX Accelerator certifications and required training.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • Strong relationship-building and client service abilities.
  • Clear verbal and written communication skills.
  • Comfort with learning and applying complex regulations and information.
  • Strong organization and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and CRM tools.
  • Ability to work independently while also collaborating with colleagues and partners.
  • Good problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.
  • Ability to explain information clearly to different audiences.
  • Regular local travel for meetings, trainings, and events is required.
  • Full-time hourly schedule of 40 hours per week.
  • Occasional evening or early morning events may be required.
  • Work is primarily performed in an office environment with moderate noise.
  • Role may involve prolonged sitting or standing, repetitive keyboard use, and occasional bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, twisting, lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling up to 25 lbs.
  • Must be able to communicate verbally and in writing and meet vision requirements including close, distance, peripheral, and depth vision.

Compensation and Benefits

The hourly wage for this role is $31.25 to $32.69.
