Job description
Role overview
MetLife’s Government & Legal Affairs team is looking for a Government Relations Analyst to support an externally focused function that helps shape public policy outcomes for the business and the wider enterprise. The role sits at the intersection of policy and business, working closely with a dynamic global team and partnering with senior leaders and external stakeholders. It offers exposure to multiple international markets and the chance to build skills that support long-term growth and leadership development.
What you'll do
- Support department leaders with day-to-day administrative and executive assistance, including calendars, travel arrangements, expense handling, IT coordination, and document organization.
- Help run internal workflows by planning activities, tracking action items and deliverables, handling requests, reviewing invoices, and monitoring budgets.
- Assist in creating materials for meetings, events, and executive briefings, including polished and confidential presentations.
- Communicate professionally and clearly in both written and verbal form with internal teams and outside stakeholders.
- Contribute to projects and office operations, supporting lower- to mid-level complexity work under senior guidance and helping organize events.
What we're looking for
- A BS/BA degree along with 1 to 3 years of experience.
- Strong ownership and accountability, with the ability to work independently, anticipate needs, prioritize effectively, and deliver strong results aligned with company values.
- Excellent organization and time management skills, with comfort managing several tasks, competing deadlines, and detailed follow-ups.
- Ability to use technology and design tools to build effective presentations and adapt to new tools and innovations.
- Strength in researching, synthesizing, and explaining complex information clearly in writing and speech.
- Ability to build working relationships, collaborate across teams, support senior stakeholders, and look for ways to improve and simplify processes.
Preferred background
- Strong critical thinking, with the ability to evaluate tasks and requests carefully, connect them to wider goals, ask clarifying questions, anticipate issues, spot gaps or conflicts, and recommend process improvements.
- Comfort working independently while keeping track of multiple priorities through to completion and adjusting to changing deadlines.
- Self-driven interest in learning the business and taking initiative in personal development.
- Ability to balance client expectations with MetLife’s operational and financial realities.
- A mix of corporate and other experience is preferred.
Location and work arrangement
This is a hybrid role based in Washington, DC, with at least 3 days each week in the office.
Compensation and incentives
The expected salary range for this position is USD 62,100 to 80,000 annually. The role may also qualify for annual short-term incentive compensation and stock-based long-term incentives. Incentives and benefits are subject to the applicable plan terms.
